Not much to update. The new stator fits really well and the rec/reg is only a bit bigger than the original rec.
I have been quite slow over christmas on both projects because of finances. After christmas I will have some more project cash but at the moment I am absolutely skint.
So I need to get the cylinders bored which will be 250 and I am thinking of taking the head to the machine shop at the same time. Getting the head rebuilt will put me out around 400-500 depending on the condition of the valves. I keep thinking I should do it my self but to do it properly I would need to buy all the tools and then learn a shit load of new skills. I figure that since I want this motor to last I should have the head done properly. As for the timing chain I just need to order the tool to remove the old one and fit the new on. After that It should be all systems go on the engine.
Still trying to find an exhaust header, 4-1 is what I was after and then I will stick the spare mega I have on it.
Ok so I got sick of my brain wanting me to finish the engine before I start any thing else. I know I am going to pay for it later with missing bolts and such but I just got sick of seeing the rims sitting there looking so sad. So I got stuck in to them after I finished welding a new bracket onto the SR's muffler.
After trying for about a minute to get the tyres off I decided to go the quick route. Got a new blade for my knife and went to town. Here are the results.
I cleaned up the rims with a stainless wire brush after I had the tyres off. First is the front rim.
Here is the rear, it was no where near as bad as the front. I will be getting them re spoked with black spokes. I plan to polish the rims and hubs, not to a mirror finish but better than 10 years of crust scrubbed back look they have now.
All good, they are making remakes now which I believe are produced in china and shipped to Italy to have the dimension and name stamped in. Here is a shot of Beachcomber's beautiful set.
And the link to his thread. http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=23681.new;topicseen#new
They`re stunning!!
Could it be grimeca in the middle of that one??
Looking forward to see how your 750 turns out!!
Keep up the great work!
Cheers Jorgen
Sweetest of rims them Borrani`s! 8)
A pair of those and a featherbedframe would be heaven.
sure they will look good no matter what kind of bike they ended up on!
Alright so the time has come to get the wheels done.
For a long time I had been decided on polished aluminium with black spokes. I am getting my wheels rebuild soon but will be using Stainless Steel spokes. So I have been having trouble deciding what to do as I am not a fan of silver on silver for wheels.
Thought I would stick up a poll and see what people thought would suit.
I thought about either black rims or black spokes so we mocked them up but settled for these. Too much silver? I know what you mean. I will do a black rim/stainless spoke wheel soon though.
Well the other day I ended up getting the rims and hubs powdercoated gloss black. I will stick up a picture after I finish putting the new bearings in. It looks great.
