Re: '77 GS750B, "Hahn" Spokes, Bloody Spokes.

Looking forward to seeing you true that wheel. I'm up for that soon, so looking forward to seeing how you handle it.

Cheers,
D.

Re: '77 GS750B, "Hahn" Spokes, Bloody Spokes.

I just finished lacing up the front rim. It is well from true. No pictures yet as I have work but it looks good. Now I just need to order some CBR900RR rotors and I can finish off the front rim.

As for me truing the rims... I think that might (and should) be done by a professional. I was quoted $40 per wheel when I get the tyres fitted. Seems alright for me. Trued, fitted and balanced all at the same time.. When I can afford tyres.

Re: '77 GS750B, "Hahn" Spokes, Bloody Spokes.

I hear ya bro. Im still trying to get the old rubber off one of the rims. Steady as she goes with the angle grinder.

Ya, I hear you, my dad`s 78 GS750 (Fawkes build thread) had the original tire on the front and the back had been replaced about 20 years earlier... I could NOT get either tire off so we resorted to hack saws and angle grinders. Very technical stuff! Had to be really careful not to nick the rims but off they came. Good luck.

Re: '77 GS750B, "Hahn" Spokes, Bloody Spokes.

Well I still need to buy the cbr900rr rotors.
I came very close to buying a new outboard today. Someone beat me to the punch sadly. Hopefully he won't pick it up and I will be able to.

Re: '77 GS750B, "Hahn" Spokes, Bloody Spokes.

I found a replica ducati 900ss tail local to me that I am starting to think might work. Once I get the dimensions of the frame after work I will see if it is a go. Should get this project moving again.

Re: '77 GS750B, "Hahn" Spokes, Bloody Spokes.

Umm, I bought a rear brake master from china?

That is about it I am afraid. I have to get the radiator replaced in the missus car. Since it is our main transport (my 4x4 drinks more than I do) I figure I will get my mech to do it and warranty it. $400 or some such number.

On the other hand, I might be selling my SR soon, which means all "proceeds" will go to the "GS Revival" fund. Should be enough to get decent fire lit. Might need flame proof pants in fact.

Re: '77 GS750B, "Hahn" Spokes, Bloody Spokes.

Alright, not much of an update but I am still working on this bike.

I finally bought the bolts I needed to mount the front calipers. I have just ordered the CBR900RR rotors (Ebay Special) and I am starting to think about shocks.

As much as I want a set of gas charged piggy back shocks I just don't have the budget for it. A friend of mine can get some custom shocks made so I will be ordering a set through him.

I am going to start looking at building her back into a roller soon. Just need to clear out the shed and finish some other projects first. I am nearly done with the boat, just have to carpet the front deck and chase some leaks.

I have been waiting for DCC to get the seat I want back in stock but I am starting to think the fiberglass version might be the better option.
As for the TR1 Tank, I think I will be saving it for a later version of the bike. As much as I want my GS to stand out, I would rather be riding it. The SR is getting to small for me, I have started to drag the foot pegs on the road.

Sure it may be a little small but I see dragging the pegs as happily riding in the twisties!

Re: '77 GS750B, "Hahn" Spokes, Bloody Spokes.

Haha it would be good if I was riding in the twisties, but that is only on my way to work. The SR can't carry me through the twisties quick enough for any real fun.

Well poop.

Re: '77 GS750B, "Hahn" Spokes, Bloody Spokes.

Quick picture update of the new front brakes. I still need to get the bolts bright zinc plated, high tensile black and rust just isn't what I am after.

Nothing too exciting for an update but here is one anyway.
I finally got around to welding the tubes shut from where I had cut the passenger mounts off.

I only have a flux core welder but I think I am getting the hang of it.

Ohh and my seat arrived so I can finally work out what I can cut from the frame.

That's one thing I love about metal work is how well it can clean up

And thank God for that. My first few welds were awful. Some of it is the equipment. The cheapos splatter a lot too (just like my HF 90 amp) so the odds are against us on that.

I hear you on the welding, just started myself. Takes a bit but the welds get better each time. Looking good.

Re: '77 GS750B, "Hahn" Spokes, Bloody Spokes.

Now I just have to raid the scrap metal at work to find some tubing that I can use to reinforce the frame. I have a drawing somewhere of where crossbars and gussets can be added to stop frame flex, while I have the bike this far apart I may as well do it.

Re: '77 GS750B, "Hahn" Framework.

The past few days I have been working on getting the dents and dings "out" of the tank. After a lot of bondo sand bondo sand it was looking half decent. I finished the rest of the low spots I had not noticed with spray filler. Just as I was preparing to put the final coat of primer on I decided to wash the tank down with water to remove all the sludge from the wet sanding I had just finished.

Something compelled me to do a leak test at the same time, and sure enough there is a pin hole.

I am in two minds. Weather I should bondo the small area where the hole is, then seal the tank internals. Or just mimic Brad and smash the fucker.

I think the first option would be the best but the second seems a hell of a lot funner.

Re: '77 GS750B, "Hahn" Tankenstine.

Here are a few shots of the patch and bog work I did on said tank.

I am looking at using the POR15 sealer, has anyone had bad experiences with this product?
