Ok i think you have different carbs then me. Ive got a 76 550k

I believe ultimately the settings are the same for the 550k's. Stock 77-78 550K main jets are 90. 76's are slightly larger.

Start with 110's (rich) and work your way down ;)

Re: 78' CB550k - Project "Ipkiss" FINALLY FINISHED Pics w/Startup Clip!!!!!

Its got 100's in it. But i have 4-4 drag pipes. Ive just heard horror stories about pods and not geting them to run right. I myself think im good at jetting and think i could get it. Just alot of work to tune 4 carbs and taking them in and out of the frame

pull the baffle dude, the roar of a honda four is awesome!
love the bike!

I'm thinking about pulling the baffle off. There's a slight rattle with it on.

Looks and sounds beautiful brother. That's some really serious detail work and time you put in. The finished product really makes it worth it huh?

WELL WORTH IT. Nothing is more gratifying than enjoying the fruits of your labor.....other than busted knuckles, empty wallet, bleeding here and there, cursing etc...lol.

I hear you. Jet sizes, needle positions, labor, frustration etc.

My setup as mentioned worked for me as it has worked quite a few other members (with 550K's) running Pods and Mac 4-1's. It runs strong and smooth. Jets aren't too expensive so purchase a couple sets and work your way down.

Like i said i think we have different carb racks. Im pretty sure i have the 087A's i believe is the number. So our jetting could be way different. Im gonna try pods i think. Ive just heard the horror stories about them

Re: 78' CB550k - Project "Ipkiss" FINALLY FINISHED Pics w/Startup Clip!!!!!

Usually the biggest problem with pods comes when you run them in conjunction with open pipes. The bike ends up way too lean. I'm not saying it's impossible to jet for drag pipes, just a pain.

Well they came on the bike so at the moment thats what i got. Is stock airbox and those pipes to lean for stock jetting? What about the uni paper filter pods?

You have done an awesome job with super attention to detail while taking less than two months to finish. I am amazed. Sounds pretty damn nice too.

As for the baffles? Leave them in. I live on a twisty mountain road and every time a bike roars by with open pipes I think f-ing a-hole. And I have been riding bikes for forty years. The cage drivers hate us. Don't give them more ammunition to use against us. Here in California they recently passed a law which will basically make it illegal to alter a motorcycle exhaust system. The rest of the country often follows Californias lead. Be the cure not the problem.

Looks and sounds great. In fact, that's the nicest sounding SOHC I've heard for a while. And it seems to run clean too.

Classy bike. I like the nice, subtle color and pinstriping. Looks like a lot of fun.

I am thinking about Mac's Competition Baffle as an option or just modifying my current baffle. I agree that no baffles will be too loud.
