'81 CB750C "Rock-It" (X-Basket Case)

Oh man, this is always the part of the build thread that I get the most excited about! Especially HD's builds, once I see that seat, I know it's almost there! This is going to be really fun to see the final product sitting next to his other builds!

Seats done, time for the trial fit.

Then I carefully set my ass on it... Ohhh soft and comfy!
Initial impression is the rearsets feel too high at the stock passenger peg location. My first bike with rearsets so maybe that's why but when I moved my feet down to about where the stock peg height would be and it feels much better. I might try puting the stockers back on and see what it's like. Kinda glad I didn't cut anything there yet but I felt like they need to be lower or further back or both. I will get her off the centerstand soon and get a better idea of the actual ride height.

;D Thanks all, still a bunch of details to work out. Front brakes, controls, electrical... then the little things that pop up.

Damn it's close! Are you going to Hayden's today on Bomber I take it?
Side bar: Yep, I rode Bomber over to Hayden Honda's vintage bike day and met up with seviston. Great to meet you Sean!
I tell ya folks pictures do not do his bike justice... It is one sweet WaterBuffalo!!! Kinda glad he and I were both too late to enter as we would have been in the same class. (modified 551cc and over) HE would have gone home with the trophy and me first looser. ;)

I don't know HD, that would be a close one! But, you know you have done a good job when you make the highlight reel from the parking lot! I hope to see you on June 29th at Fort Wayne Cars, bikes and coffee 10AM-12AM. Come on Rock-It!

I wondered what Kurt Hayden was doing with that camera!

"Rock-It" did get some attention yesterday. As a Fathers day present, I was allowed to play in the shop undesturbed almost all day. Slipped off the mufflers and trimmed the mounting tabs Then reinstalled and tightened everything down. After the final buffing, I hit all the engine covers with a coat of Mothers and then dug out my new gaskets and got them installed.

Then I moved onto the front brakes. As I was disassembling the first caliper and I was debating whether to just clean them, repaint / what color, or strip and have them aluminum mounts or entire units. Once I got them to the point of hosing it with brake clean, so much of the black paint came off it's a no brainer. Next time you see them they will be raw aluminum.

Nice HD, I went fishing with my son then finished the day in the shop removing old black paint from aluminum too. Got my triples on the CX done, top aluminum is brushed finish and I painted the bottom cast iron in silver hammered metal to kind of match. looking forward to seeing how your calipers turn out as I am considering doing the same thing to the CX.

Lookin' awesome HD... love the seat!

That water buffalo looks familiar... is he on the GS Resources? Can't remember his name over there now... and that Kat beside it looks familiar too... same guy has a Kat and a modified buffalo from memory so that's what's ringing bells for me...

Good day out I take it?

Yep, that's me. I am viperG on GSR. You are in Australia right peteGS? Anyway Scott and I did have fun meeting for the first time and looking at the bikes. There was a real nice RE5 that a guy road to the event. Only one I have ever seen on the road let alone still motoring. The RE5 only had 3800 miles on the clock.

Scott do you have any idea what bikes won their classes? That's why I checked Hayden's Facebook page was for the results. Anyway... give Rock-It some more love, looking good!

No I don't. I had to leave early to go to the Grand-Daughters B-day party. Haydens is closed Sunday and Mondays so today will be the first they are open since, expect the results to be posted on F/B today.

Hey cool, my memory's not so bad after all! :D

Yep, I'm over in Aus, just plain "pete" on the GSR... One of the fellas I ride with occasionally here from the Katana Australia forum has an RE5. He rode that on one of our runs... it's not immaculate but it's certainly a good runner and a rare beast!

Two words. Gor geous. That deserves an around the world snap! Looks like you'll finish yours way ahead of my DOHC! Great job HD.

Thanks for the props guys! It is appreciated, I am really getting stoked and moving in full stride to get her done now. Just a few more bits to snag and I can fire her up for the first time in who knows how many years.

I plan on a forrk brace. Been watching e-bay with no results. But last weekend at the bike show that Sean and I was at, I hooked up with an old mate who has access to a water-jet and he has offered to use my bike as a ginney pig to take measurements for DOHC 750's to add to his line of fork braces. Was keeping that under my hat in case it doesn't pan out.... I always have the original front fender that is in great shape as an alternative... or a standby.
