Re: 82' KZ440 Brat'Cafe'?: Engine in, got a roller, seat next

Picked up my custom length stainless braided front brake line from a local place.

Looking awesome! Those tires are HUGE.

Thanks. Rear tire is the stock size actually. Front is slightly larger at 110/90-19 and rear is 130/90-16. I think it gives it a killer look.

Fall or winter project may be to slam it down. Lower the forks internally and get some nice high quality lower rear shocks.

Great build, turns out great when you put your time into prep!

Thanks!Working with what I have and on a budget somewhat. It's been slow progress but worth it.

Thanks! Grips are plastic ones from Dime City. Mixed emotions about them, nice fit, nice quality, cheap of course. Feels....okay on the hands. I'll get a better idea how I like them once I start riding. I may splurge and get a billet set and nice grips.

Re: 82' KZ440 Brat'Cafe'?: Engine in, got a roller, seat next

No real updates or progress. Life and work take up my time.

So much for having it done in June.

Half way through the year and still not done.......

Re: 82' KZ440 Brat'Cafe'?: Engine in, got a roller, seat next

Great. Our house has been on the market for 4 months now. Looks like someone wants to put an offer in. After a few weeks I may not have anywhere to work on the bike or store all my tools and equipment.

Re: 82' KZ440 Brat'Cafe'?: Wiring, seat, final assembly

Seat out of camping mat cut out and glued. Need trim, bend and cut out my pan still. Repeat process and have it covered. Been slacking in this department.

Started wiring. Waiting on sheathing and couple misc. terminals.

Changed my location of my battery box. It will be mounted on my swingarm. Unsure how to secure it? Thinking of a small aluminum bracket from the back side and bolts underneath the swing arm.

Lookin good man!! I just showed your bike to my wife as an idea of what mine will look like finished and she said "ooh, that's really nice." High praise!

Make sure you post up some good pics of your battery mount...I'm toying with the same idea.

Are you gonna make the seat follow the frame or are you gonna let it "float" like it is?

Thanks, really appreciate it. Too funny! My wife doesn't care too much about it. She just tells me she gets tired of looking at it all torn apart ;D

I will, the box and mounts will be done this week. It may actually be slightly inclined for mounting purposes and easy removal.

The seat will follow the frame, the pad is just resting. I'll get some more detailed pictures once that process gets more involved.

Edit: Forgot I took these

Everything just sitting there for the moment. May be inclined up front a little for a mount welded on, then bolted through the swingarm for easy removal and service if needed.

Just threw on the stock cover to get an idea of how it will look. Hopefully I can get my pan and pad to the upholster this week.

Looking good man! Where'd you get that camping mat? I'm starting on my seat and was reading about camping mats. How thick is your seat going to be? Lastly, are you making a custom pan?

Thanks.

Wal-Mart for $8.00 or so. It will be 3 layers thick+ a thin foam pad above that + the leather. Not sure on exact thickness. Just tested by using the ass to seat theory.

Yes, custom pan the shape of the frame. Will be bolted in the center with 2 bolts through the brace in the middle. Secured with wing nuts for easy removal. Pictures to follow this week.

Re: 82' KZ440 Brat'Cafe'?: Wiring, seat, final assembly

Haha ass to seat theory I like that. Yeah I already made my fiberglass seat and was thinking of doing the same, drilling holes in the seat then fiberglassing bolts into it that will drop down into the crossbar on the frame and my boss recommended wing nuts today. Looking forward to the process. ill be tuned in. Don't know how I haven't seen this one til now

Re: 82' KZ440 Brat'Cafe'?: Wiring, seat, final assembly

No real progress last week or this weekend.

Battery box and tray still at fabricator/welder.

Re: 82' KZ440 Brat'Cafe'?: Wiring, seat, final assembly

Hey man random question... did you have to have tubes with your new tires? And what type of valve stems are you running?

I have been trying to get my new tires mounted and the stealership is trying to tell/sell me new tubes.

I am running tubes with my tires. Stock style stems.

I told my local dealer/shop to go through the tubes and inspect them and replace if needed. They told me they are in great condition so replacements were not needed.
