all you need is about 15" added to that lot so you can get closer to the rear axl

I know that would be ideal but that layout is not part of my original design. I already have a 2-1 collector welded onto my pipes and centered underneath the bike.

Why what's wrong with it there?

Looks cool, is more mass centralized but given the fairly low ground clearance of the KZ440 it is more liable to get hit.

Re: 82' KZ440 Cafe' Brat Build:

+1 not ideal for lean angle clearance and way too short for a good performance tune

Re: 82' KZ440 Cafe' Brat Build:

I will loose some cornering angle but I'm okay with that. This will be a fun, cool looking work commuter and weekend cruiser.

Ideally the exhaust should be longer but I wanted to do something different.

Re: 82' KZ440 Cafe' Brat Build:

Please post a picture from the back so we can all realize you'd have to wash out in a hard turn for that muffler to scrape while leaning. apparently xb rides every bike he's ever been on like it's a day at the track.
I can see it possibly hitting over a speed bump, but hindering lean angle?

you are not going to hit anything that looks fine to me for a street/commuter bike.

Re: 82' KZ440 Cafe' Brat Build:

Theres not a chance in hell you hit that exhaust on anything but your leg

So much for any progress this weekend thanks to my loving supportive wife.........sarcasm

Positive thoughts right?

Sound clip +2. Being a flellow kz owner I think they all sound terrible. Hopefully this changes my mind.

Edit:

As promised here a shitty sounding clip. Taking with my phone.

An odd noise starting to come from the engine at idle and the engine still didn't have any power so after another compression test just said screw it and tore the engine down after work. To note, I re-sealed the engine a couple years ago but I did not put in new rings.

Cam shaft seems to be fine but this bearing was oil starved at some point

Re: 82' KZ440 Cafe' Brat Build: Exhaust done & engine tear down

Making some calls to have the head gone through as well. A guy a I know may have some rings laying around, hopefully they are the right size.

Mine sounded awesome with the same muffler m.b. Just picked up. Often got compliments just on the way it sounded haha.
