915 superbike on the cheap

yeah, I'm not in a huge rush to put the 915 in, with the homemade swingarm and front end, I want to make sure the bike doesn't do anything silly before putting the big motor in. as far as the needle jet and throttle cutaway, it's a plastic flatslide, so I don't think that's change-able, and the needle jet is just whatever came with the stock carbs, so the needle and needle jet aren't numbered
 
If you're up for the tinkering, going to a larger needle jet may help. That will richen it up from idle to about half throttle.
 
it's too rich in that range... I'd have to find a larger needle... unless dropping the float level would lean the entire range by enough

Sorry... I misread. Smaller needle jet will help, not bigger.
 
Yep, it's easier to adjust the float level for testing, + 1 or +2mm will work
That lean's things out everywhere.
Smaller needle jet or fatter needle is alternative but more difficult to find correct one
