Re: _Eurotrash XS 650_

Looks great!

If the period guys had the technology at the time they would have done the same thing, lol.

Hmm.. it's going to be a tough judgement on who has the nicer XS by the time you & Tintin finish... you guys deserve your own biker build-off special!
I believe that they are both winners :)

Re: _Eurotrash XS 650_

Well,

Been it's while since my last update. Really nothing much going on with the bike. Found some clip-ons and a pair of sweetass (IMHO) grips at the local junkyard.

GOOD NEWS:
Christmas was good this year and I sold my other dirtbike ('00 KX) so I'm loaded with cash, just need to find the right bits at the right price and I should have the XS running in no time. I'm also moving into a smaller apartment which means less money for rent-> more money for the bikes.

BAD NEWS
My main concern at the moment is getting the wheels set up. I was really hoping I could go with shouldered 18"s but the swingarm doesn't leave enough room for it so I'm stuck with 17"s. At least finding suitable tires will be a bit easier. Getting a 36-spoke front wheel with dual 320mm discs is also presenting a bit of a problem, any help would be welcome. The only thing I've found so far is from a Moto-Guzzi, but with 40 spokes. I'm also currently the highest bidder on a 17-4" BMW tubeless spoke rear wheel and 17-2.5" front rim. They just looked so trick that I made a bid on them without really thinking it through. Not even sure if I can have cross-spoked rims with my stock rear hub. Hopefully I'll get outbid and can return to normal rims, or maybe not......

just news

Even though I haven't really been able to get anything substantial done on the bike this month, the 3 week holiday gave me plenty of time for planning, so right now I know exactly what I need to do and where I can get the stuff I need to do it.

Re: _Eurotrash XS 650_PROJECT:period_Incorrect.......

I did'nt really like this setup.

So I'm going probably going to go with this:
rear4.jpg

Got the battery tray and rear loop done.
rear3.jpg

I'm going to have to get the mufflers rechromed anyways so I was thinking about getting the ends cut off. And maybe drop the mufflers and inch or two.

I have a big surprize coming along with the wheels. I should have the wheels set up within a week. I'm also going to post something about the seat in the seat section over this weekend.

Re: _Eurotrash XS 650_

That seat is amazing, I can't stop looking at it. It must look awesome in person.

I agree with you, I like the two pipes on the same side. Also, I would drop them a little bit, don't want to impede any view of that seat ;D

I can't wait to see this all done.

Re: _Eurotrash XS 650_UPDATE 070308

Alrighty then,

I know I promised an update ages ago, but as usual, thing's didn't quite go as planned. I bought the rear wheel on Jan. 21st but didn't get 'till yesterday. In the meantime I've been working with the front wheel. I'll break it down for those interested:

Rear wheel:
BMW GS 1150 4x17" , whole , off of www.ebay.de

Front Wheel:
RIM - BMW GS?R? 2.5x17" , already polished,www.ebay.de
HUB - Moto-Guzzi , model unknown, www.rebootguzzispares.com
SPOKES - Stainless steel, I bought the guzzi hub and beemer rim not knowing if they were compatible, which they weren't. The spoke  pattern lined up with the rim but the entry angle was about 5 deg. off. So the good guys at www.symotic.com bent the spokes on the rim end and the wheel actually came out quite nice. I'm still not quite happy with the shine level so I'll take them apart this weekend, polish the spokes, hub and rim and put them back together. I also need to build a nipple wrench.  :-X With all the work involved lacing the rim they even came at a reasonable price. (150)

The mufflers need to come in a bit more, find suitable rear light and umm..probably a shitload of other things I just can't remember right now. Oh yeah, I'm not sticking with the tires that are on at the moment. Probably going for Pirelli Sport Demons.
0603085.jpg

Need to draw up some bearing/ rear brake disc adaptors, OR just place the right side bearing in the hub, grind out the inner tube-thingy and those 4 holes where the bolts come out (once again a reminder to all you readers, english is neither my first or second language. ;D) I'm just not sure if 5mm is suffice material thickness, need to do some calculations....
0603082.jpg

If someone want's this, I'm be willing to send it for the shipping costs. (It's the rear wheel center cap, dia. 1")
0603084.jpg

This is what I'll be spending most of this weekend with. Need to draw up (SolidWorks) an adaptor for the rear sprocket and wheel bearings...or something. I have plenty of ideas, just need to talk to someone who knows if they're executable...
0603083.jpg

And Finally,

The Status Quo. Still a long way to go, but plenty behind me. I guess I'm about 2-3 weeks behind schedule.

I just put everything together for the pic so the headlight is going to come down lower, the rear might come up and inch or two. Front brake discs are coming(2 X 320mm 8) ) as soon as I find new 6-pot calibers, I have the front fender coming in next weekend, A friend is making an aluminium hugger for the rear etc etc.....

Re: _Eurotrash XS 650_

HOLY CRAP! Love the wheels. I'd be happy to take the BMW emblem off your hands - I'll find a spot on my R75/6 for it. I'll PM you my details and let me know how to send you some $ for it.

Fantastic project!

Re: _Eurotrash XS 650_

I love that tankkkk and seat/cowl. Chrome or Polished stuff or whatever that is looks soooo damned cool!!! I'm sooo badly waiting for my next bikeeee

Re: _Eurotrash XS 650_

I love following this project and look forward tot he weekend's updates.

Let's see those SW models because I'm having a hard time visualizing what you're trying to do.

Re: _Eurotrash XS 650_

Looks so much better with the rear shocks out of the way, excellent choice on the mono shock.

I am glad I did it as well . ;D

Re: _Eurotrash XS 650_

Nice progress, what headlight did you use? It looks quite large.

Re: _Eurotrash XS 650_

Wow!! Beautiful Bike Thanatos! I can't wait to see it done. It really is amazing what some of you guys are capable of. Some of these bikes are a lot for a first time builder to live up to. It is so great to see what can be accomplished with these bikes, but it also makes me think that my project is nothing special. Do I keep it simple to ride this summer, or do I take a year and build the bike of my dreams??? Oh the dilemma.

Re: _Eurotrash XS 650_

thankyouthankyouthankyou :)

And once again my apologies for not updating quite as often as I know some of you would like. I just prefer to do things first and write about them afterwords.

I think it's the original XS2 . Just a normal 7" one. For some reason my camera seems to obscure the dimensions. The pictures simply don't do the bike justice 8) I'll have to make a few short videoclips.
