A CB360 Tracker Rookie build

I think we can work that out. I'd be pretty happy with a beefy fork brace and/or a fender if that helps any. I might also take some pods if you have 'em. Then we can start talking about you selling me some of your in-laws parts at a cut rate so you can recoup some of your expenses.

I do have some pods we can swap for your filters, and I can definitely make the fender thing that looks "dirt" like you are looking for. I think the only thing I have left at the moment of his parts is the mufflers. I'll double check and see what else he has.

Cool beans. I don't "love" those mufflers, but I'm still without a set. Mark said he had some cool looking retro aftermarket mufflers he could let go of, but they were missing in action while I was over at his place. I refuse to buy new mufflers even if nothing pans out. My backup plan is to put together some baffled tips out of copper from the hardware store and blacking the headers.

I wouldn't put those mufflers on your bike unless you did some scrambler style setup. They just don't look right down low.

I know. Eventually I want some CL or CJ headers for it, but unless they pop up dirt cheap, it ain't in the cards for this year.

If I had spare time for any more projects, I would make you a set out of some spare pipes. By the time I got around to it I'm sure my 360 would be long gone to build them off of.

I got the basic rewire done today. The ignition and charging system are wired up. I still need to find a good spot to stash the rectifier and regulator, but for now I'm much happier with it. After some tickling of the throttle, she fired right up. I have some fuel leaks to take care of yet, and the petcock that came with the bike is a cheapo that has gotta go. After close inspection, it looks like the part of the fitting is broken, so there's not much for a hose clamp to bite. Also my temporary fix for my trashed plug wire end isn't going to work in the long run. So I've got to order throttle cables, grips, a throttle housing/tube, a plug wire end, tires, tubes, and a headlight bulb. the tires and tube and headlight bulb can wait. Before I go on an ordering spree, anyone have preferences on throttle housing/tube setups and cable brands and sources for them? I'm not crazy about the twin cable stock setup. I'm gonna run some titty grips. I like 'em on the 750, so no use rocking the boat.

I slipped out to wake the neighbors this morning with a little open header troubleshooting. Looks like I'm getting little to no fuel on the right cylinder. No surprise that my mismatched float situation is less than perfect. So looks like a float or two has been added to my list of needs. I'm still missing some float bowl screws too, so I'm sure that isn't helping with the fuel flow issue either. I'm not crazy about the idle adjustment setup, so when I pull the carbs to do replace the float I'm going to get a long thumb screw. I'd like to be able to tweak it with it running. Currently, I can't get to it with the tank on the bike.

There is an adjustment screw on the left side of my carbs. Not sure what yours looks like though. Also, are you sure fuel is coming out of both outlets on the petcock? I had to clear out the tank and bowl on the petcock multiple times to get it to flow to both carbs properly. Got any pics of your carb setup?

It's a single outlet petcock on the tank. I've got clear lines on it, so I could see both carbs were getting fuel. I'll snap a shot tomorrow of the cabs for reference. I didn't get home from eating with the folks tonight until it was already dark. One of the floats that came with the carbs is from something, and I had do do some filing on it to let it travel enough to close the valve. I planned on replacing it after getting it running anyhow. The idle adjustment on the carb linkage is dead between the carbs. It sits under a flat spot on the frame. There is a hole in the frame above it, bit I didn't have a screw driver long enough to reach. I'm a ways from doing much real tuning still.

Are both diaphragms good?

A few reference shots. You can see the PO somehow managed to take a chunk out of the carb bodies on the filter side. Both have similar gauges. And there's blue paint remains on them from the PO.

I pulled the fuel line for this one. You can see the fuel penis on the petcock. It's stubby and tapered, and I'm pretty sure at some point in its life there was a brass tube protruding out of the stub there.

I've been considering making a fiberglass seat. I borrowed the initial shape from a bike a came across a few years ago that I really loved. I'm not sure it works for this one, but I shopped up a few quick ideas base on it. Mostly, it was a good exercise in photoshop.

I started with tweaking the shape of the seat to fit the curve of the frame loop.

A little too "cafe"

Do number 3. It's not as hard as you would think, but it does get messy. Also, be prepared to redo it if you aren't satisfied.

Quick note on the petcock, something isn't right there. The one that Cail ordered was from Dime City and their valve looks similar, but not quite. I don't know if they gave him a crappier version or not, but that's what it looks like from my cockpit.

yeah it's a turd. The bottom is plastic, the fuel outlet is a cheesy casting that looks broken, and there's no way to get the hose clamp on the fuel line to cinch down without leaking. I'm working on getting another one from eGay.

I like the third one better also. I've played with glass once before, and it was pretty easy. Messy is dead on. If I can create the shape I want with some foam, then I'll go get some materials and glass it up. It would give me some more hidden space for odds and ends too.

I can't justify paying for one like below when I know I'll have to modify it anyway.

I went digging around in my stash of odd ball parts, and I really liked the shape of an old 70s dirt bike fender support I had in the mix. I taped it in place to get an idea of a seat shape to base on it. Ignore the chaos of my carport.

And I shopped it a bit for a better concept. Looks like a tracker seat to me. I think I can use it for the shape and then glass it in for some added support and a tail light mount as well.

You should mount the pet carrier to the tail instead.

J/K

It looks good.

I should get another carrier and have some cat filled hard bags for the trip. You know, just in case we get hungry.
