A CB360 Tracker Rookie build

yeah. I can see carrying live bait around being problematic.

Nothing too exciting to report at this point. I ordered a few parts from DCC, a few off ebay, and I got a new headlight housing and ring from a local guy for cheap. Should have grips, throttle and cable, plug wire ends, speedo cable, and a petcock within a week or so. I messed around a bit with the fender/seat layout on the bike, and I masked off quite a bit. I picked up some fiberglass supplies over the weekend. I'm going to try to take that process slow, so I don't have to end up redoing it or doing a lot of extra clean up on it. I'm tend to be more function than form, so we'll see how it goes. Other than that, I just have carb tuning, wiring up the lights and gauges, tending to the front brake, resurfacing or replacing the clutch plates, and a few odds and ends. Oh yeah, I still haven't settled on tires yet. I'm thinking either 4.00-18 on both or 4.00 up front and 4.50 out back. I haven't settled on a tread pattern yet. I need to crunch the numbers and see how much is left in the budget to keep this thing in the sub grand boat. Cheap-o is the name of the game.

Dunlop k70 for the win. Period.

What's wrong with your clutch plates?

No clutchy at them moment. The actuator may need some adjustment, but I want to pull and inspect the clutch plates to make sure every thing is kosher on that end. I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling the plates are stuck together.

I may have a spare clutch assembly on that parts motor. Worth checking out at least when you swing by this weekend.

I made haste when I got home from the weekend abroad this afternoon. I rocked through a hangover and dug through the goody bag I got today. Also a few of my parts from last week's ordering frenzy came in the mail while I was gone. Score! So I pulled my carburetors, replaced the floats, added the previously missing throttle cable bracket and idle adjuster cable thingy, reinstalled the carbs, stabbed on the slightly rotten stock mufflers (thanks for being a pack rat, D-man), put on the new throttle cable and throttle assembly, and with the light of day gone I fired it up. Good news is that we have idle; Bad news is that the right side isn't firing. I replaced the shite plug wire end with a new NGK one and that wasn't the problem. Bam, no more day light. So either my float is sticking closed or I knocked one of my coil wires loose while I was rushing for results tonight. I'm still pretty pleased to get a few things I was missing and having a quieter exhaust note while I'm still in the tuning phase. So, hopefully tomorrow I'll have time to dig into the no fire issue. I don't expect it to be a big issue.

Swap your coils and see if it changes. If it does you need another coil. Replaced one on the 360 I picked up for the same reason. I may have a spare or two, but not sure yet. It's probably just me, but it always ends up being the right cylinder.

I ran home at lunch and tinkered with the bike for a bit (who needs food, right?). So I swapped the coil feeds and routed the left coil to the right cylinder and got no results. I pulled the right plug, and it's way to clean and dry. I switched it back and loaded the right side carb up with a little starter fluid, and I got it to pop a few times on the right side. So, there's still a fuel issue. I'm not stoked about it. I managed to bruise the shit out of one of my palms while installing the suckers back on it yesterday after swapping the floats. Looks like I'll have to break out the KY to make things a little more gentle next time... When I get a few extra minutes I'll pull the carbs back off and tear into the right one again. Maybe it's just a clogged jet.

Sounds like fuel to me as well. Is there fuel in the bowl?

I didn't pull the bowl when I was home to check. That's probably what I'll do first. It's possible that the splitter in my current fuel line is causing part of the problem. My new duel outlet petcock should be in the mailbox when I get home, so that will get sorted quickly.

Unscrew the drain screw on the float and see if any fuel pours out.

I noticed yesterday the drain screws are a bit overly snug for the likes of my wienie hands (carbs off the bike), so my back up plan was dropping the bowl. My brain isn't doo doo butter all the time.

Ok, so I have good news and bad news. I'll start with the good news. I pulled the bowl screw on the right side, and it was pretty dry. My new-to-me petcock was waiting in the mailbox for me, so I dug up some extra fuel line and installed it. Voila, she runs on two cylinders now.

The bad news. I happened to noticed that the left muffler is pissing out black fuel from a hole about midway down the bottom of the muffler.

I shut if off and got back to being super awesome IRL via cooking a delicious meal and rescuing a buddy from estrogen overload. This morning as my truck was warming up, I did the smell test on the dipstick and sure enough it's got gas in it. It might be a good time to order a gasket kit, so I can pull the clutch after I drain the oil.

Have you been shutting the petcock off? Was it firing on the left cylinder?

Yes, and yes the exhaust was hot and it actually sounded pretty good. There may have been some leak down from the petcock. There was a point where the idle ran away.

Was it cold out at all?

Could it be a mixture of fuel/condensation/and soot?

Actually, the weather was nice yesterday evening. I was wearing a t-shirt, so I wreckon it was in the high 50s- low 60s. It was pretty cold yesterday morning though.

I finally had some free time to get back to the grind on the bike today, so I went decided to get into clutch issue. I drained the earl, and even though it looked super clean it smelled like fuel. Carb issue identified already, so no surprise there. I pulled the right case cover off and removed the clutch springs to get at the plates. I pulled a few and they look decent. I was expecting to see all the discs frozen together, so that's a bonus. I decided that all the covers were looking pretty rough due to an overly zealous scotch brite operator (not me), so I pulled the left side case covers for clean up too. I tinkered a bit with the clutch actuator and tried to get some movement out of the clutch plates, but no go. So I cleaned all the aluminum and shot it with some ceramic VHT in the aluminum tone. I figured if it looks shitty it's not a big waste, and if looks bitchin' I may pulled the motor and shoot the rest to match. This stuff is supposed to be gas resistant, so if the carbs shit the bed I shouldn't have to worry about ruining the paint job. I've heard some good stories, so I'm hoping for the best on that. So I clean up my mess, start putting things away while the paints setting up, and I managed to lose the bearing for the clutch actuator. Sumnava Biscuit! I spent 30 minutes with a magnet scouring my workspace. No luck. No biggie I guess. I found them through Honda for next to nothing, so I ordered 3 just in case I decide to shoot myself in the foot again during reassembly. I'll snap a shot of the painted covers once I get it back together.

Shouldn't be but a few days for my balls to come around, so I'll get back to trouble shooting the clutch then.

Gotta keep track of your balls. Always. Seriously.
