A DTT lawyers thread?

Please forgive me...there is nothing like a good lawyer!

Yeah... that's what we were afraid of. Luckily, we have the option of living abroad. My wife is a British national and so spending a few years in the UK for her to get her degree is definitely an option.

If your wife can pay domestic tuition in the UK.... I would recommend going there for law school..... MUCH cheaper. She would have to do some retraining courses back in US before writing state bar exams, but also great experience.

I lived in Japan for 6 years, married my gorgeous Japanese wife there, did law school in UK, and then moved to Canada. Nothing beats living for while in different cultures...

And before that I lived and worked in both Azerbaijan and Hungary. I love cross-cultural life... forces you to really reflect on how much you appreciate, or not, your home culture....

I am a senior title examiner, so I argue with lawyers all day - that count?

Wish I could rush the bar in my state without going to law school.

My firm runs a title company so I rely quite heavily on title examiners every day. In my book, you guys are just as good (if not better) then most lawyers in that area.

Just curious, but how many hours a week do you guys work on average?

Hey Rich... title examiner sounds alright to me. Do you find you have been doing it long enough now that you could do it in your sleep? Gets that way with family law after a while... 90% of the cases covered by 15% of the law... I am not there yet though.

When I started working for the company I've been with for the last two years, they really pushed for salary; I was lukewarm on that as I can make a lot of money working 60-80 hours a week in the busiest part of the summer. But my now-boss insisted that it was a for-real salary position: that as long as all the work got done, he didn't care if I was working from home, at the office, or AWOL - and he meant it, which made the dead-cold long winter pretty nice for me (first time I've taken a Christmas vacation in a decade). I'll probably be pushing 60 hours a week over the worst of the summer and 70 in December on commercial property.

And you're right that a lot of it is mindless anymore - especially with access to several national underwriters' databases. I can copy and paste 3/4 of the commitments I release. But I have started teaching con-ed classes and pre-licensure courses for Realtors, and that's fun; there's expert witness stuff, too, which is generally entertaining.

just found out I failed the bar. again. I seriously hate lawyers. At this point I just want to be one to spite them.

Sorry dude. That's a real bummer. If it's any consolation, in my experience nothing about the bar is a direct indicator of your ability to practice law. I know people who passed their first time who are terrible lawyers and people who took it multiple times and are excellent lawyers. Since its a standardized test, it really just tests your ability to study and take tests, which most of us struggle with. I'd keep at it if I was you. Did you use a bar prep course?

Shitty. OTOH it makes my bar-hopper joke funnier.

Keep at it hombre

I'd also like to note that I just got off the phone with a guy who must have passed the bar but can only barely be competent to fog a mirror
