A Kiwi build from scratch

And the finished product, good clearances so I think will work a treat. Now to make my cage to house it

Search the site for 'mama tried' and you'll find the 2014 discussion and photos.

70,000 people including a few hundred DTT members converge on Moody Alabama every October for the Barber Vintage Festival and DTT Mama Tried get together.

Videos on YouTube also :)

Wow, that looks a blast!!! I think when I get my scooter finished I might have to box it up and freight it over to Alabama for a week or so to take part in the festivities!! looks like fun all round

Does anyone offer "Burt Munro Special Freight" pricing for that?

Haha ya and you get to ride over on the freighter ship as well. Don't forget the peg leg skid on the trailer when you don't have a spare wheel!!

Hey Kiwi, I wasn't faulting you for the "flying by the seat of your pants" approach you are taking, in fact I do it myself a lot of the time. I have autocad on my laptop though so often it is quicker to just lay something out to make sure it will work first.
That swinging arm looks ace and you sure have access to the right machinery to do the job. It's unfortunate that you don't have a tube bender which makes xb's idea of the the trellis frame a good option. I look forward to more progress!

The Duc only has 4 bends in most of there frames, you could bend up those with a protractor and two hitch balls bolted to the bench then cut after for exact length.

Or you could heat the tubes and bend them, that's how I did these;

All good mate, no harm done. Not to keen on a trellis frame, trying to keep an old school 'featherbed' type frame look going on. When I get all the dimensions worked out I will be running a main 50mm spine up the centre to pick up the rear shock mount and link to the head stock. when I think trellis, I think Ducati or TRX, not really what I am after. Not trying to make a Norton/Harley mix like previous things I have seen before but the Featherbed frame is more what I am after.
I wouldnt know what to do with a autocad, so probably wouldnt be much help to me. Those pictures of the drawings and pink bike were more for a laugh than taking the piss, I really am that bad at drawing, lol.
I am lucky that I have access to the my mates shop with the lathe and mill etc, makes jobs a lot easier, but then makes the build more complex because I say to myself "I can just make that", and there goes another couple of nights work ::) Am wanting to start laying out the rear suspension this weekend, if my wife gives me time off for good behavior.

for now I am just using pre bent elbows and U's. For me it makes the process a lot easier to workout where I need things, also when it comes time to make the actual frame it will allready be in the same CLR so everything should be in the same place, should be.

ha ha, frequent bike flyer miles!! My actual aim is to have this thing built and road legal for the Burt Munro Challenge 2016. Dont think I will ride it down there (the fuel tank is not going to be that big) so might ship it down to the south island and ride the rest of the way. worth a look guys

Bejesus that looks like one hell of a festival, shame it's on the other side of the planet ... It has to be done.

We have three main bike rallies in NZ, the Cold Kiwi in the north island and then the Burt Munro and the brass monkey in the south island. all worth a visit

A bit more progress. Heading in the right direction I think
