A little ZUKI representation...

Been Around the Block
With all the Honda's and Yammy's on this site I figured I'd post up a few pic's of the GS550 I've been working on lately ;D.

The night I brought it home...

WOW, that is an amazing transformation. You would never say it was the same bike! Love the seat, build it yourself? How long did the transformation take? Great job.

Ive collected suzuki trucks for years, and owned a few of thier bikes in my time...

...but that kind sir, is the nicest one ive seen, hands down.

Can i have it? ;D ;D

Thanks for all the compliments guys! ;D

I've been working on the bike off and on for about two years with several different versions. I did all of the work myself including the fiberglass seat pan and paint. The only thing I had done was the leather seat cover. The carbs are VM22's with 105 mains.

I've had a blast and I'm ready to start on my next project, a '66 cb77 superhawk.

Here is a link to more pictures of the build.

Heya Byrd, Again, as i have said over on the GSR, simply BEAUTIFUL job. Classic as hell, and nice and clean. Love it. I really do like the addition of the spokies, sets if off like never before. Hows the 450 you picked up coming along?

I still think that tank emblem is the shit! It really gives the bike a true vintage look. I need to find something old school zook like that for my cafe. Not the same one, but something older.

Whats up TKC, thanks again for the comps!

The 450 is done - just waiting for the title to come back and its going on craig'slist. Sweet little bike - surprisingly quick. I wish I could keep it but I'm flipping bikes to generate some extra cash. Check out my photobucket link in my previous post for some photos of the finished product

I would check out the round "S" they had on the really old Suzi's - check ebay you'll see what I'm talking about. I was torn between the two but eventually went with the one on the bike now.

Hows the 750 coming along - any new pics?

I agree some of the older/smaller emblems look much better.
Why is it companies like Suzuki spend decades and millions of adverting dollars so to ingrain their trademark logos in your head and then when they have done that later on the feel the need to plaster their name the size of a billboard onto their products. If they have to do that for people to know(so they can recognize) it is their product and not someone else's then they screwed up!

Sometimes I miss the days when you could with great accuracy just tell which bike was which by it's distinct sound or by just getting a glimpse of it whizzing by. That's hard to do these days with cookie cutter cruisers and sport bikes. They are now what we despised about the
auto industry in the 80's.

Your bike BTW is very cool and I really like the open air look to it as it makes it look lightweight and racy.

No real new pics to speak of. Got the seat mounted, have done a bunch of wiring that needed done, but those wouldnt make very interesting pics. Just waiting for some good weather to get the roller out of the basement and get the motor in it, chain on it etc. Then the tank and what not goes off to paint while i tune it up and makes sure my jetting is good. Should i get some decent weather soon, i say she'll be done by late April. At least for this year. Im buying an 821100G next month also, so i have plans to break the cafe down again next winter and do all the stuff i had actually planned but felt short on time to do, such as actually get the frame powdercoated, make a pan to tuck all the electronics up behind the seat cowl and fab a kicker arm that will be out of the way so i can put some rearsets on it. Prolly do clip ons over the winter too. That and clean up all the wiring so you cant see it as much as possible. But for now, i just wanted to get her up and running, and see what i needed to play with mechanically.

I have enough extra tanks and forks and whatnot to build another 750B so im kinda shopping for a titled, unmolested frame to build a restore too.

Next winters big project will hopefully be an 1000E to build a superbike replica from, but we'll see :)

Well at least it sounds like your making some progress - I know what you mean by wanting to get it ready for spring and waiting on the rest until next winter.

Congrats on the 1100 - I saw where you mentioned it on the GSR but never saw any photos. I know what you mean about having a long distance bike. Everything I currently ride is only good for about 3hrs at the most ;D.

+1 on the Cooley bike. Pans bike is one sweet ride...

I miss the GSR..I should stop in for a visit sometime. I sold my 700e last year (to a friend of "unclemike"'s), and haven't visited much since...great bunch of guys over there. Plus, some cool bikes...that one is amazing. Well done sir.

that bike is amazing!

I popped a lil' chub just looking through the pics

anyways,
I'm building a 750 for a friend, and having trouble with with the tank

what tank is this?

Thanks man - good luck with your 750!

The ebay listing said it was for a 79 550E. I had to remove the original mounts and weld in new ones to mount it. Watch out for the GS750 tank and frame. Ton up soldier has alot of experience with the various changes the frames and tanks.

Post up some pics of the progress

I have a ton of pics, I just have to sort and edit them

I was wondering about tanks though, and when I saw yours I got all happy

what exactly did you do to make it fit like that?

anyways,
on the 750 I cut the last 4 inches or so off the frame, I'm doing a custom glass bullet seat, hiding the battery and electronics in the seat, running zx6r rearsets, converting to a rear disk, and probably gonna run clip-on's

the bike is for a friend

I'm also making slow progress on my bike, 86 GS550ES

its a piece of crap.

but its fast, and reliable for the most part

partially fightered out, no fairings, tiny little lights, vance & hines pipe, jet kit, no filters, stripped down a little

It's gonna get wheels, and then a tail section.

I'll probably call it a day after that,
I have a CB500 that I need to start on soon

:]
