Aftermarket cb 360 cam chain guide

Ok, so I've seen so many people looking for these tensioners that it makes me wonder if there are actually any aftermarket ones out there? If not I guess it's cause the 360 isn't popular enough? I find that hard to believe though. Comments?

Led me to think about getting some aftermarket ones mass produced myself. Probably out of polyamide 6PAM? (thanks sonreir).

If anyone has any thoughts on material/better design etc. I'd love to hear about it and hopefully get schematics too. If anyone has better contacts/means than I do to get this shit done I'd also love to hear someone step up.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Re: Aftermarket cb 360 slipper

I'd buy one. I looked into getting them produced in China, but it takes a lot of capital. Most minimum runs are in the range of 500 to 1000 units. You're gonna need several thousand dollars up front.

If you do end up deciding to go that route, you'll want to prototype a design and have a local company produce it first before committing to mass production. I'd be happy to run a set in my bike. I remove the top end on a semi-regular basis so inspecting for wear wouldn't be difficult.

Re: Aftermarket cb 360 slipper

Yeah would probably be worth it with the demand I'm seeing online. Not sure if design could be better though. I guess it's not like the 350 KA from bore tech where a single peice unit can replace the 2 peices in the 360 right? Definitely need to do a few ones up locally first. You went to Alibaba site to find those Chinese suppliers didn't you? lol.

Re: Aftermarket cb 360 slipper

I'd be down for a set as well, was actually thinking about having a friend of mine laser cut them out of delrin or some other hard as hell plastic/composite. I forget what the hell he said was better and slipperier than derlin.

Ok,

So I've got a set of cb 360 guides that I'm looking at replicating. They seem pretty straight forward but will probably still take several thousands of dollars to do a run. Wish I knew if there was going to be enough people demanding these things before I jump ship. lol

As simple as they seem, they can cause a major headache to find. Not sure what you would have to sell them at to make profit, but I bet everyone thats searched for them would try like hell to get a spare set, lol.

Let's say it costs you $5000 to get 500 of them produced. You only need to sell 100 at $50 each to break even (not counting time). The other 400 will net you $15,000.

Chances are, it will be a lot less than $5000 to get them produced, once you have the design.

Even 50 is pretty cheap for upgrade like this. I think the cb 350 KA guide goes for over 100 bucks. We'll see. I'm meeting a guy tonight who has manufacturing contacts in India.

I'd buy a set in a heartbeat

I talked to a machine shop about replicating a pair when I got a hold of some, they said technically its not a problem but because its an engine part they didnt want to touch it because of the liability issues. I'm sure you could find someone to do it though

Yeah I was thinking about liability too. I'm gonna test them properly first before I risk everyone else's lives though. I've got a few 360's around here that need them so lots of guinie pigs. Found a gent last night who works at a machine shop in quality control. He said that they might be a little tricky to make out of the materials I want. The originals were formed in an injection mold around the steel. Very expensive process. We're looking at a cost effective process that uses high grade materials built to last a lifetime. I'm thinking lifetime warrenty and if it wears out we replace it for free. Build it right and I won't have to worry about liability issues right?

Might want legal advice on that part but if you're selling them on here and you state that they arent guaranteed and they sign a waiver or something bla bla you'd be ok.

I'd gladly be a guinea pig also if you have prototypes made :D

Keep in mind that the 360 has two different tensioners (at least) depending on the year. So whichever you make will not be universal for all 360s.

I made delrin ones in the past, but it turns out I made the wrong kind for me so no joy.

I don't have any left, this was years ago... I think I gave one to Kiley.

You could put me down for a set to....

I am afraid to check mine, cause if they are worn, I'll want to replace it.

Been keeping my eye's open for a set.

I just asked Kiley, he said his is working great so far. It's in Gretta which I'm sure most of you are familiar with.

Hell yeah sweet ass bike. I wonder what it looks like now and how many miles he's put on? So you just made yours completely out of plastic and no metal backing? I hadn't considered that. I would have figured that it would be too rigid and flex enough.

I didn't know that they varied through models. I thought that there were just the two peices in each bike but also the recall ones with the metal loops going the other way.

Yeah. The kind in the pic are the recalled ones. The newer style have the metal "circle" curving away from the chain and not toward it. For what it's worth, the new style should fit on all the 360s and possibly a few models as well.
