Airhead Cafe - R80RC

The stripe - I'm glad someone else struggled to get it right too, I'd considered the double stipe too but it just didn't sit right - It's a relatively small detail, but the Devil is in the details.

I've put my thread up, but it's slipping down the page fairly quickly as it's not everyones cup of tea - here's a link

http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=40061.0

If you don't want the link in your thread I understand and will remove it if you like, but thought those that like Airheads might like to see it. I'll back link from my thread too if you like.

I've not got near carb tuning stage yet due to the bike being in many pieces, but also due to it not actually having any carbs when I bought it.

I've since bought a pair of Mikuni VM32's that come already 'jetted', but I take that as 'jetted close enough to get it running' - I'm not sure that'll be of much help as you're running Bings, but I'll help where I can :)

Gotcha- this bike is on the back burner (I have three bikes I am selling that have priority right now), so we may end up dealing with carbs about the same time, lol.

As soon as I say that I think the bike is fine with the silver snowflakes, I get the Thruxton out and am inspired to go black . . . ::)

And I can see why

What you could do is get a spare pair of Snowflakes cheap, get them looking nice and fit them, see what they look like. You could always move on the spare pair of wheels at a later date.

A cheaper way would be a Photoshop job done on them, but that's not the same.... It must be nice to have these sorts of decisions to make :p

Good point on the spare snowflakes. One concern I have is that the snowflakes are textured and I am not sure they will look right in gloss black.

Ideally, I think a set of black rims with stainless spokes would be the cat's meow. Maybe down the road. For now I want to get some miles on the bike- in short bursts, as the seat will be bum numbing

yeah the black rims with stainless spokes would look nice. Too much black and it starts looking too blacked out for my taste and it looses form.

I thought I'd share a pic of the wheels I'll be going for, Morad valanced rims and stainless spokes.

(NOT my bike)

I have a pair of police spec BMW soke wheels (Twin rib narrow front hub) which can (as an earlier post confirms) be fitted to the later Brembo braked BMW airhead bikes. The wheels are in very good shape having just be re-built with a Stainless spoke set. Front has brand new (0 miles) Conti, with rear (drum brake) and excellent tyre. A great way to really set off a later bike with 'classic' spoke wheels or for a cafe racer. Wheels in Leicestershire England. Make me an offer if you want them (but do remember just the tyres would cost in excess of £200 to buy!)

Love the work you've done! I have an 88 r100rt that I've done some modifications to, will be posting a log soon, when I removed the fairing I ran into the same brake line problem. I found a local hose line shop they do hydraulic lines of all kind and walked in with the old lines, saw a sign above the counter that said "brake lines while you wait" and I said "can you match these fittings and make it x inches long?" guy said give me 15 min. 20 min and 60bucks latter I have a stainless line with new fittings and the length fit and feel is perfect.

Buckeye - I've found a place in the UK that you can build brake lines online - I can't seem to find a USA outlet for them though, gotta be worth a google though.

TP- thanks on the brake lines.

The foam on the seat came from ebay- it was meant for a sport bike I believe, and I cut it down to the size I needed.
