In regards to your sidecar, whatre Illinois regulations on them? I havent really looked into it but I always wondered if they're street legal? Would be awesome to take my dog along for rides on one of those... ha!
Yeah they are street legal, no special license required but take my word try one out first and go slow, bring extra underware maybe too I have not ridden a sidecar in more than 25 years and every now and then I would swear the sidecar wheel is about 12 feet up in the air my brother has one in Switzerland and he does take one of the dogs with him, not sure wich one has the tounge out further in the wind. It is a heavy sidecar with car wheels on (flat) this one is a lot of fun to drive, the sidecar does not want to come up all the time and going around right handers (on that one the side car is left) you can acctualy let it slide a little.
There are quite a few companies here in the states that make side cars, most of them are cruisers (for 99% I guess that is why you would have a sidecar) my dream sidecar would be a cafe racered up sidecar, the big Triumph Motor and then a low frame and a sporty sidecar
Hello Chicago! My names Cail, recently moved up from a year of work in Arkansas (where i discovered my passion for Cafe's). I now live on the northwest side, close to the suburbs.
Rides: I currently have none, but am searching HARD for that good deal. whether it be a project bike someone cant or doesnt want to finish or a good running bike that just needs a little tuning. In Arkansas I started off by helping build a KZ 400 and eventually got myself a rolling frame and engine for a CB360. I got about 85% the way there until I moved back up here and decided that i'd rather sell it then spend the $600 to have it shipped up. So for all of you wanting to get rid of that hunk of metal in the corner of your garage, I'm more than willing to take it off your hands, as long as it has compression or ran before you tore it up
I don't have any club affiliations at the moment, but once i get my hands on a bike and get it running and ridable I would be ecstatic to find some people to ride with on the weekends.
I'm 19, started my motorcycle love when i was 13, got my first bike when i was 14 and broke m 5k cherry when i was 15. I work 3-7 days a week, and will be a fulltime student come spring. So i'm really trying to get that bike running and ready for when all this snow I know we're all anticipating dissipates.
Yeah, I've been checking up on Craigslist a lot as well, but i try to keep it to a minimum when I don't have money or I end up making myself pretty sad haha.
I'm looking for a running 75-79 Suzuki, Yamaha, or Honda. Size-wise anywhere above a 360. I'm really hoping for a Suzuki GS550. I've got a Sub and Amp setup that I'm hoping to get $400-500 for so once i can save up a good 500-600 I'll have enough to get a good, running bike that I can just take apart as I get/make the aftermarket parts that I want.
A big set back i have is that I dont have anything to transport the bike if its just a project. If it's a project bike with compression and had been started in the last year I'm looking to spend $300-$700.
Thanks for the help too! I'm the only person I know up here who's into older bikes haha, everyone else I know rides crotch rockets and Harleys.
How long would you be interested in waiting? haha I could probably have $800 by late february or march. depending on how fast my sub and amp setup sells.
you got time man, it is in the back of the shop and i have 2 builds ahead of it... not 100% sure i am going to sell it rather than build it and then sell... shoot me an email when your ready to buy. i have a bunch of bikes and everythign is for sale!

we had a booth a while back, did really nothing... my buddy will have one though for West coast T bars that we will stick some stuff in for a bit of rep at the show
Heading further north in the near future. The wifey got a new job in Hoffman Estates. Anyone know of any work to be had? I went to Illinois State University for photography, but I am currently working at Cargill Grain and Oilseed in Bloomington, so im really open to anything. Just need something to pay the bills...
hey bud! you are going to be hella close to me, i am in Elgin but grew up in hoffman/ schaumburg.... my buddy owns an art gallery in Schaumburg he may know somehting. our shop also wants to do a few photo shoots of some of the bike builds we ahve done before we sell in thespring. have a few chicks that model and want o add some motorsport pics to their portfolio so they are willilng to straddle the scoots... when you moving!
JRK nothing is set in stone as of yet, but I would say we would be up there by mid-March. Any of those opportunities would be great! I took a look at your buddies (hopefully same one) art when you posted some of it up here for auction. I love his stuff! Ill keep u updated on the progress of the move.
Do you have any programming experience? I work for an industrial automation firm, and we had a guy who was going to train to be a robot programmer (which is what I do) but he left because his old company made a ridiculous offer to bring him back. Don't have to know how to program robots, you just have to understand basic programming logic and concepts.
Fuck, wish i did. I programed a robot arm to pick up a block and drop it into a bucket in like 8th grade. Does that count? Haha! Thanks for the offer man.
Joe, when is that photoshoot and can we come over and take our own pics and play at being a photog for the day? Maybe turn it into a shop visit, bring your bikes and hangout sort of day top promote the biz. Maybe a mini bike show sort of thing.
Maybe generate some new business and spread the word.
I'm new around here and as a broke ass college student, I most definitively don't have a bike. However, I just wanted to let you all know what a cool site this is and what an inspiration all the cool motorcycles are. I'm looking forward to working this summer and actually saving enough money to buy a motorcycle this time (like that will happen lol.) Anyway, just thought I would say hi and let my presence be known!
I'm there too, broski. I went broke at NIU and had to move back in with my folks.
I *do* have an ex project bike that I'll be getting rid of in the SPring that I was going to sell at a highly inflated price, but to a fellow broke-ass-college-student and DTTer, I'll probably take it at break-even.
It's a GS550T and it needs some tuning and minor electrical work.
