Anyone else ever thought of one of these??? JDM Mini-Truck

Maritime,
Thanks for the post. I used to see these everywhere when I was in the Far East in the late '90's - Japan, Bangkok, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong - just everywhere. Honda had one with a 600cc engine or thereabouts and the only way I ever saw most of them driven was with the throttle wide open.
Didn't even know you could get them in Canada.
Does anybody offer engine upgrades or swaps for these things? Around 1.5 liters would be sooooooo much fun.
Looks like more fun than a barrel of monkeys and cuter than brand new puppy.
You DTT'ers are the best.
Keep us posted.
Pat.

Patt here is a link to the first place I found them for sale:
http://www.oddballauto.com/

they are in Ottawa close for you, found another dealer in Dartmouth, a lot closer for me. As for engine swaps I believe there is and there is a couple big dealers in the US I found through google who hop these suckers up for off highway use only but most of the stuff can be used on road here the guys can get the slightly larger 3/4 ton diesel toyotas, they have the Honda "Attacks" which I would like if it had true 4x4 they are AWD no low range locking hubs etc.

FYI Quad Wheels fit onto the little Suzuki Carries ::)

Yep fit the daihatsu too and there is a place in the US that can even swap on a set of road legal BFG AT KO in the smallest 14" size and they look huge on the little rigs LOL. That would be my choice as I want to drive it on the street.

Pat I imagine one of these would be a great rig to zip around the GTO to make deliveries etc.

I would love to own this!

Why not throw a motorcycle engine in there and keep it in the spirit of DTT...

I'm feeling a Busa swap.

Maybe you could do the ton haha

LOL, not sure I would want to, except maybe if it was that lowered version with the wide mags, that would be killer with a busa swap!, from what I read the little motors in these are 660 CC and are based on triple bike motors to begin with and are designed to rev quite a bit.

When I was overseas, the only way I ever saw these things driven was at full revs and rowed up and down the gearbox, invariably by a really skinny chap with a crewcut, a sweaty tank top, a sneer on his face and a smoke jammed in his mouth.
I thought maybe it was some kind of kei drivers' union uniform or something...
If I was going for it, probably the raised roof van 4X4 and left hand drive. The 5 speed would be nice.

That is the one that caught my attention. I think it could be turned into a cool little activity vehicle. they can tow 1500 lbs too so an hicth and small trailer and it would be great.

Ive rellyt been eyeing up this older Ford Transit at a dealer here. It was a work vehicle for some company and the dealer got it in on trade. Been there forever.

We've got one at work. Pretty cool ride.

The two door basic van with no windows is the same size as my little S10. Taller of course, but otherwise the same.

When we were buying my wife's Odyssey, I tried to convince her to buy a transit. I love those things.

I have friends in Philly who have 3 kids. In 07 they bought a Transit Connect, the dealerships only had the commercial models, so they had to special order one with seats to use as a family wagon. The salesman thought they were nuts, and so did I. Turns out, those cars are really good for traveling and commuting. A few rides made me want one.

I wish we got the Transit with the 4cyl. turbo diesel that they get in Europe though.

Ya we get the Transit with the Focus-derived drive train, automatic only here in Canada. They're built in Turkey, as far as I know.
I like them, just hugely expensive here in Canada for what they are, but would look awesome with 17's, some flares and a decent paint job. Suspension mods that would let you get around a corner in short order without you being the first guy on the block to corner on his door handles would be nice as well.
Maybe we could start a separate Transit thread and get back to kei's please?
