Anyone into Photography?

Learn about lighting, aperture, shutter speed, then take as many shots as you can! Have FUN!

I have a D60 with a couple prime lenses. Seems to do the trick.

That bridge pic is amazing, how do you get such depth of color? I tried to get some shots of a local Christmas light display and all the colored lights just overexposed and washed out the color.

Miob: I love those shots, and love the bike even more, that red leather seat cover is so perfect for it. Also watermarks don't have to be so clinical, you could certainly get rid of a lot of it and just leave "bmwcafe.blogspot" I think it would be obvious from there. It got me to check out your blog... and add a link from mine to yours.

Lower apeture setting (higher number) to compensate for the very slow shutter speed. Lets you control the amount of light going in and then you cut the exposure when you think its done. Practise makes perfect.

That bridge had amazing lighting at night to start. I love that blue bridge. It's pretty iconic in our city. It has these two massive concrete counterweights. There was a city wide petition over replacing it or upgrading. Unfortunately the bridge is coming down.
Exposure: 1.5
Aperture f/3.5
ISO 200

Yeah, my issue was that my subject (my wife) wasn't as bright as the lights themselves, so the correct exposure for her was wrong for the background... I guess I just needed more light on her. I got her to sit in front of a lit up fountain (with me between her and the fountain) but I just couldn't get the right balance. She also wont stand still for the longer exposure :)

Nice images fellas. Some good advice posted here as well. Back in the day I made a medicore living with my cameras. Over the years had a few different gigs ie: staff photojournalist for two news papers(mostly sports and features). Did some stuff for Racer X mag, even did some crime scene for a police department, then moved onto forensic photography for a coroner. That was when everything was old school and everything was manual. Mostly shot 35 mm and medium format. I have tons and tons of images scanned at low resolution like these ::) :

(both shot with a 300 2.8 manual focus as slides. I still have the slides which look much better than these which was scanned at low resolution)

Clothing ad for Racer x (again as a slide scanned at low resolution right along with all the dust spots, lol ::) ) What a fun time. those were the days ;D

wow wow wow!

some amazing shots here.

girly in my school got a eos 7d as a christmas gift with a 700 dollar lens... she doesnt even know what the modes are on it.

lucky for her, shes stunningly gorgeous, and was impressed when i was talking to her about photography
"Wow! 7d! nice... what lens?"
"i dont know"
*i look at lens, 13-35mm something or other*

nice, you can get some good action shots with that lens...

"howed you know?!"

so now i get to teach her about photography. and how to use her... 2200 dollar... setup....

jesus, if i had a camera like that....

i have so many unprocessed rolls of film. sucks too, my brothers pro photo status has me access to the best scanners and printers available. I just sold off my collection of small point & shoots and 3d point & shoots, and now i'm just left with my rf7 range finder with a broken meter so i have to hand meter everything that's not outdoors; but it takes such great photos i can't part with it. my eos 1 just collects dust cause it's so large with the battery booster i never wanna use it, one of the best film cameras still available though.

anyone still shooting film or using point & shoots / weird cameras? and no, a holga is not a weird camera. ;D

is an old olympus c-2500l weird? it sure sucks. haha.

just came across a d70 body on craigslist. cracked lcd, 70 dollar fix. camera is 80 bucks. im thinking get it, fix lcd, buy a used 18-70 lens for around 100 bucks, and have a damn good camera to use and shoot with for a few years to come, until i can drop money on something better.

The D70 for $80 with a broken screen is not bad, you can always use the viewfinder to shoot and review the pics once you upload them. Something I learned so far, is that it's not worth buying good dslr if it has a high shutter count if you are going to be shooting a lot. It's like car, once it reaches it max shutter count, it will need an overhaul which will cost you more then what the camera is worth. I can help you determine what is the shutter count on D70, just have the seller snap a pic and email to you, send me PM and I will gladly look it up for you.

I was thinking about getting the new Panasonic GF2. Anyone have any opinions on this camera?

I wanted something small to take with me all the time and be able to change lenses mostly for long range shots of surfing, my friends racing their bikes at the track etc. I have an old Eos that I love but Its too big to carry around on vacation and I hate going through a million rolls of film to get 3 good shots.

i was looking at this exact same camera. the changes lenses thing is really cool and you can buy adapter to accommodate almost any type of lens. could get expensive but still cool none the less. have you looked at the olympus pen, or the canon g10? all three of those are somewhat similar in price and function. you don't here a lot about panasonic when it comes to pro cameras but the gf2 looks like a winner to me.

just jumped onto this thread. some cool pic's here.

I can't say I'm a photographer as much as I like to call myself a fuckup with a fluke.. LOL

I own mostly film camers. nothing special. mostly Lomograpghy cameras. A 180fisheys 35mm toy camera, Holga 120mm.. a 1957 Yashica Mat 120mm. and my sloppy point and shoot Canon Rebel. I don't have cash to buy legit gear.. but I have fun and it works for me for now.

here's my flickr page. some photos here.. but i keep my fav's off the internet;

snap a pic of the camera or snap a pic WITH the camera? either way, its probably way less actuations then my c-2500, and the price is beautiful, and the seller responded... so it looks like i have a new camera!

if it turns out to be a dud, i can easily resell it on ebay for 150 bucks and double my money. kinda shitty business, but heck, chances are its good! the seller sounded well informed and his message was properly written unlike most of them which are

"THIS CAMREAZ GOOD.> BUY IT FOER 200 OR DONT MESSAGES ME~!"

haha.

Also ill have some shots up later... I'm really getting the hang of this camera. with good lighting, i can take some very good shots, long as they are not blown up too big.
