Have any of you gentlemen seen a cb900f monoshock (2002) swingarm on these bikes? I can't find any info or even dimensions and would love to pick one up. But would like to know what I'm in for.
Not too much happening the past few days, started cleaning up the gsxr triples and cleaned the carbs
Then tried out some phosphoric acid in the tank to sort the rust out but it didn't seem to do anything. Then I forgot about the tank and left it in the rain... :-\
I'm thinking given the state of the tank that whatever I try next I may just sink the whole thing in solution inside and out.
Have figured out my setup for front brakes. Will be running 320mm rotors off an 02-03 gsxr 750, using the 04 lower fork legs and 06 calipers I don't need to use spacers. Have ordered some longer caliper bolts to complete it.

Got the cases back from being acid washed and dropped them off for vapour blasting today.
Then started putting the carbs back together, took quite a while to get the choke plates to move freely but I'm happy with them now. Just need to get my service manual back for the base settings on the mixtures and then done until I order my #115 main jets.
Also picked up a set of gold fork tubes cheap so am swapping them over. I wanted to keep the later model internals as them run a heavier spring rate but the end caps are all torn up from a monkey with a rattle gun so will keep the 03 internals for now. Just waiting on fork seals and oil and I'll put them together.
Well I had a birthday last week so my wife treated me to another shipment from the states.
I've got a cbr600f2 swingarm, R1 shock, some rearsets and my new trailtech dash.
I roughed in the rear end tonight to get a feel for the geometry. Have to decide on how I'll deal with the unnecessary rear end now I'll have the mono shock.
Need to figure out how much height difference there is between the 18 in the pic and the 17 I want to run.
Cool looking build. I would consider replacing that stamped rear subframe section for a tube instead. Would give you mush sweeter lines. There is a mob in Riverstone who custom bend tube (Carrington). I will be watching with interest as I have my eye on a bigger cb at some stage to do something like this:
Neevo- I'll check out that place for sure as I'm only 10 minutes from Riverstone. Thanks heaps. I definitely will be hooping the rear but I'm just undecided as to whether or not I'll chop the support for the "subframe" section off down at the rearsets and then bring a support out higher up to really put some air in the back end.
Only if you're going Monoshock, otherwise you would loose some structural integrity where the shock mounts are.
Even I you are keeping the twin shocks cutting the whole rear off gives you options to redesign a bit. Strengthening up the rear is always a good thing as the CB's tend to twist a bit back there from the forces in corners.

On another note, I picked up some wheels today. Just have to figure out the best way to fit them. They're off an aprilia rxv 550 which runs a 25mm rear axle and the Cbr runs a 20mm. So looking into two options, either buy a 25mm axle and machine out the swingarm (that way standard bearings and spacers can be used) or get custom spacers made up.

Clearance looks to be sweet, will just have to take my time with it all to get it measured out spot on. Will mean running a 520 chain too but that doesn't bother me.
Now that I know the height go the rear tyre I can start to measure up the rear for the cut and the shock.
The tank on my project is rusty inside and out. This is how I'm going to handle it. I have a chrome shop not too far away, I called them and they said they'd dip my tank in the acid tank to remove all the rust and paint inside and out for about $40. I'd have about $100 in enough metal magic to submerge the tank in and I'd still have to strip the paint. Don't know if that's possible for you, but it's something to think about. As if you need more to think about lol. Good job on the build so far, keep it up!

Neevo - I'm in The Ponds (near kellyville if you know that area of Sydney?) where about a are you?
I haven't had any experience on a lathe, defininately something that's on my to-master list. I've found a wheel bearing that will fit the smaller axle but they only seem to be found in Italy (made for Vespa scooters) so that would leave seals, collars and spacers. Plus still need spacers for the swingarm.
I just started checking out your blog mate, looks like you've got a bit more talent in fabrication than me! Love that swing arm, that's what I originally wanted to do but just don't have the tools or skills. Have you figured out which shock you're going to use?
Holy shit, I just realised that I had read your build thread about 2 years back! Random! It was one of the build threads that made me want to start my own build.

Our fabrication skills are probably similar, it's just that I have some of the tools
I ended up getting a custom shock made from RAM in the UK. Beachcomber hooked me up with it and I'm very happy with it. I think it needs a slight shortening of the shaft and a softer spring but will look into that once I get it rolling under its own steam.
