Well, there's already a thread with stupid stuff to point out.. as too is their threads for other strange things.. but I thought we should have a thread that brought into memory that machinery can be quite awe-inspiring sometimes.... this thread is in tribute to engineering and mechanical marvels that are in some way-or-form responsible for our privellege of motorcycles. I will start by pasting a photo of the world's biggest 2-stroke crank ;)

Next...? LOL

also happens to be the most efficient (and most powerful!) internal combustion engine in the world, and runs at a stunning 200 rpm ;)

seen this before. cool stuff.

I take it you know more of this beast? Cool... can you please tell me what it's used for or where it lives? Cheers :D

Nice one! Thanks for the info.. has intrigued me since I saw it..... so.. I wonder if there will be others to submit strange mechanical images for our cerebral pornogaphing LOL

A set of good expansion chambers and we could get the power band up around 10-12,000 rpm.

G'day mate ;) I see you're a bit of a salt runner over there in the States? I'm thinking of building a 750cc semi-streamlined for our speed week here in Lake Gairdner next year... would you mind if I dropped you a PM sometime about a few tech questions I have regarding gearing? Cheers!

Not at all. If I can help in any way I'll be glad to. Instead of PMs e-mail me at noisynorton at netscape.com

Hoof you may want to obfuscate that e-mail address a bit, or you will get tons of spam.

other end of the scale...

That thing is awesome! It'd be way cooler if you could actually drive it though, he should've made it remote controlled. Was it from Top Gear? That sounds like Jeremy Clarkson talking.

Cheers Hoof, will drop you a line in the next week.... I need to think about how I ask the right questions in order to learn how to manipulate gearing to find the harmony between enough speed and not enough time ;) Will talk soon. Appreciated mate.

Steve

Basically LSR is finding the right combo of drag, HP, and gearing. Really simple until you do it.

"...really simple until you do it".

That's exactly what I'm talking about... I can already begin to imagine the difficulties of putting physics/planetary mechanics into usable action... without having yet made any unsuccessful realisations... how to ask questions that will enrich my speed potential without ever having been on the salt.... hence my needing to ponder the optimum questions

LOL... and if you think you're confused after reading that.. you should try being moi!
