Re: broke ass slo bike build CM400t **tank painted 9-17!!!
Do a fighter style tail end maybe? Drop your headlight if you can. Looks too high up. Maybe mod the OG seat. It actually looks kinda cool. Especially if you do want the passenger option.
Re: broke ass slo bike build CM400t **tank painted 9-17!!!
thanks for all the feedback guys. the tank needs refinishing, but it looks ok for now, so i may add a whitish stripe when i repaint. i'll try to get a close up shot to show the detail of the paint.
Ghosttown: you must've jinxed yourself talking about your chain like that
dcwp: i've been staring at the outline of your seat pan thinking about how i could make mine work for a unique look. http://dotheton.com/index.php?topic=10041.30 i can't wait to see what you do with yours.
Curbcast: what would a fighter style tail end be? are you talking about just a really small floating seat, or am i way off?
here's some quick snaps of how i fit on the bike. i like the foot positions, but i find myself riding with one hand to sit up a bit more when i'm coasting.
Re: broke ass slo bike build CM400t **tank painted 9-17!!!
Looks like a great fit. I also like what you did with the tank! I can't wait to see more updates on it. I definitely want a CM to do up in a different style after having nearly completed the A-Bomb (my Hawk has that same annoying frame).
Re: broke ass slo bike build CM400t **tank painted 9-17!!!
i just found out the hard way that high-temp paint is not gas-resistant, at least when it hasn't been heat cured. i should've known better. pics and rethinking later...
so, when the dolphin starting transitioning to the thunder toad, it's tail became part of my project http://dotheton.com/index.php?topic=10934.0
translation: dan sent me the unused portion of the first seat pan he made and now i'm thinking i'll shave down my seat foam and make a removable cover ala newer thruxtons
back from the grave...my budget build is slowly progressing as i learn from you guys
oh and this new little guy has been keeping me mostly out of the garage
i bought emgo pod filters and i'm running just the crosspipe for muffling and decided to do a general tune up before rejetting
started with fresh plugs and quickly noticed that the left cylinder is running lean while the right is running rich
the shop manual says to adjust valve clearances before syncing the carbs so i found some time to do that tonight
i popped off the left side cover and was met with this mess, left from some rodent some time ago
i decided to take some old advice from back when i started, and work with the unique frame rather than fighting it so here's the seat pan i cut out of a stop sign. i just need to secure it in the back with flat round head bolts and wingnuts, then cover it.
a few crappy cell phone pics
Like the new seat pan. I have been following this thread for ideas on my cm400t. I like the bike and the lines but have always hated the seat. Looking forward to seeing how yours comes out. -MBS
so for awhile i've been thinking i'd dig out this old jacket from my closet to upholster the seat for my bike. i dug it out today and now i'm not sure if i can use it. in truth the jacket is nothing special, something i got on sale from jcrew when i was in high school almost 10 years ago, not really moto related. the leather is perfectly broken in, but i don't wear it anymore cuz the inner liner is falling apart.
i can't decide if i want to sacrifice it for the seat...or maybe i should think of it as a rebirth...but i could also have it relined (maybe even armored?) and repurpose it as a riding jacket
let me know if you have any thoughts
here's some pics
Re: broke ass slo bike build CM400t 06-13-10 progress
gudday. because you've got a brokeback frame on that thing and it's designed as a 'cruiser' first and foremost, you're always gonna have a slanty back end..i've got the same issue on my GN and i'm actually going to get some much longer rear shocks (up from 320mm to 405mm) to raise the back end and give it a racier profile. i will be putting modern 17" wheels front and rear and monoshocking it later, but its a good quick fix. should be able to pick up a set second hand for cheap! otherwise its looking badass mate
Re: broke ass slo bike build CM400t 06-13-10 progress
brokeback frame? lololololol. now you've done it...that's too funny hahaha. i've also thought of changing to 17" wheels, but A. i wasn't sure where to start looking for ones that might and B. i think i've decided that this build is going to be representative of doing things with what i have...so unless someone wants to give me a set, i'm probably not gonna get any
longer shocks are a great idea though! thanks for the input
Re: broke ass slo bike build CM400t 06-13-10 progress
I'm not in love with the jacket, but if it's sentimental, you should keep it. Try armoring it to see how it works and if you screw it up, no loss since you were going to get rid of it anyway.
I dig the work-with-what-you've-got aspect of this bike. It'll make it really unique and I think show that this bike isn't quite the pig some folks assume it is. I'm pleased with the quirks my CM400 is adding to my build.
