You sold a 350 for $14,000? Please post a picture!

Please tell me this is not the bike you put $9k into.

::) Besides, I was generalizing not trying to swing my dick.

My wife always told her eyes when I tell people that vintage Japanese bikes are a cheap hobby, but in reality, compared to most other forms of mechanical vehicle hobbies (cars, drag racing ect.) It really is

Of course it is. Shit adds up fast man.

I've always been the function over form type, but I don't sell my bikes or build them for other people either. I don't think I'd ever spend 10k on a bike building it, but 5ish... Probably. I will be in this thing cheap by the time it's rideable. Tearing everything down and replacing all the consumables with new shit and prettying things up is where it gets $$$$ fast

You're 100% spot on. I spend a shitload on just making everything new, including all the bolts. I have a crazy project in the works that when done will cost 13-15. Pay to play!

Re: Building my own two-stroke "Mongrel" - Inspired by CharlieT & TedT

I am fortunate to have tools and knowledge (or access to knowledge) where I have to farm very little out. The engine in this thing, my God, if I had to lay someone to build it, woulda been close to 5k by itself between the trial and error and machine work and Welding. That's a 1,000$ custom pipe I built if you took it to any guy that did custom chambers and wanted an Inframe pipe like that built. Maybe more. So yeah stuff ads up quickly.

Its just been really refreshing and fun to me to hop on ebay and find decent usable parts for like 1/3rd of what I am use to doing on well used three wheeler shit in comparison

You're so full of shit, dude. C'mon man. On one hand, you boast about getting Excel rims for $75 then, on the other hand, you're saying you put $2k into wheels alone. Ingenuity and the generations of craftsmanship on display in this thread are what's impressive, not the amount of money this guy spends.

Those rims wound up being predrilled for the wrong hubs. If you look at a photo, you'd see those aren't excel rims. Also, didn't say for that bike! If you follow any of my work you'd see they are on a different bike, would be happy to send you the invoices from Devin for the rims spokes and hubs. It was over 1k for the spokes, rims, powdercoat, and bearings. The front hub was around 400, and tires 200ish. So yea, 1600 before having tires mounted, then 1700. Like I said. Closer to 2k that 1k. How's that full of shit?

Additionally, this thread has extremely impressive work in it, who said otherwise? You wanna piss on my foot further? Do it in a pm, this is counter productive to this thread.

Irk builds solid riders and uses them for trade or to ride, I start a lot of projects and eventually finish something I end up selling. All the while I like to buy bikes that just need some love and get them going but only to sell off to pay for my addiction to fancy parts

some build with money, some build with brains and talent. thats how things have always been. the one built with brains and talent is the one that truly represents the heart and soul of custom building

the white cb350 for example could have been built much better for far less than 9k but to each his own style i guess. if you can get 13k for a 5k bike more power to you but that says more about the salesman than anything

There are many ways to build a custom bike and one is not "better" or more representative of "the heart and soul". We are all blessed with different gifts and have different visions. It's all good.

As for this build in this thread, it is seriously mad. BillyGoat is doing things I could not do or would not do and that's great IMHO.

Let's see what he does next with it. The chassis is ambitious enough but the motor is a whole different level. Keep it coming dude.

I'd say it says more about the buyer.

I would certainly love to hear more about what BillyGoat is doing with his project. His fabrication skills are exceptional, and his ability to solve problems creatively and within the scope of the tools at his disposal really is helpful. Pleas continue!

Should be working on mounting the radiator this afternoon. Then I have to do some figuring on the seat and gas tank being a bit more permanent
