Bultaco Bandit El Montadero 360

Re: The Count Mount Zeke's El Montadero 360

no we are cleaning the other tank and doing both at the same time. Got the forks rebuilt and the engine is out of the frame and we are sanding the frame. Restoration is a little slooower.

Did the caswell this weekend. Cleaned the tank then swished it with acetone. The epoxy is straight forward. Just followed the directions. Blocked off the petcock bungs with some kids clay. Poured it in and used Saran Wrap with a zip tie. Turn turn turn. Pour out the rest. This is how much we had left. Hipster cups make good mixing cups.

Frame we prepped with Ospho and then sanded with a new dynafile tool we picked up for a 100 bucks

We found a faster way to prep covers for polishing. This little DA by HF does the trick.

Re: The Count Mount Zeke's El Montadero 360

Tex,
A Bultaco 360 road racer is not farfetched. Back in the '70's, a Bultaco 360cc endurance racer won one of the most prestigious 24 hour endurance races in Europe against bikes that had twice the displacement and sometimes more. To celebrate their victory, Bultaco brought out a street legal version, called the Montjuch if my spelling and memory haven't let me down. Never saw one, except in photos. IMHO, not nearly as pretty as the Metralla.
I imagine an Astro top end would fit the Montadero cases, but might be too pipey for a road racer - and I would surely look for a lot bigger and better front brake than you have right now. There are a number of Bultaco 250cc road racers competing in AHMRA and the VRRA but I haven't seen any 360's.
Enjoying your build.
Pat

Thanks Pat that Montjuic is the same platform as this Montadero and I think it was the same displacement. Zeke is working on his chromoly welding skills. This frame feels a lot heavier than the 28 lbs that our scale says. Almost tempted to drop this engine in Victoria for grins :) totally agree with you on the looks

frame painted with black epoxy appliance paint. The engine head and jugs freshened up, new fork seals, new engine seals.

Running into some minor issues. Since the previous owner switched to a Bandido b61 frame with a Montadero Model 51 engine and cosmetics such as the pelican fender and rear fiberglass fender the rear fender seat don't fit this frame. Also the front pelican fender is going to hit the scrambler expansion chamber so I think I am going to shelve the fiberglass for now.

Zeke says we need to sand to 800 grit. MixednNervrdull and Mothers Billet this time for a final polish and was impressed.

Or the Bandido dress with a Preston Petty seat skirt I found on eBay you will have to use your imagination with the metal fenders (stockings)

I really like the high pipe with that seat skirt.

Re: The Count Mount Zeke's El Montadero 360

Tex,
Great build, neat old bodywork. Good to see another Bul coming back from the dead. Don't get it too shiny though - Senior Bulto's bikes were never that shiny from the factory, LOL.
I don't know how hard you're going to ride the bike, but one of the tweeks I remember from the olden days, was a small bolt with a locknut installed in the rear hub spoke slots, between the spokes. Occasionally, the spokes would pop out of the slot after a hard landing, so filling the slot with a bolt solved the problem. Mostly on MX'ers but I do seem to remember some of the enduro guys doing the same thing.
I think you said you have an aircraft supply company in your area - I think AN3's would be the right size but maybe AN4's with nylock nuts would work.
If I can find a photo of the above in my myriad files, I'll scan and email it to you.

so bitchen :-* i like the boat tail if you can restore to that original mark it would be most appealing in my mind ..but just don't go out and crash it right awaay hahahahahah that stuff has no memory like a preston petty
yeah the alloy was not like chromey
i have a few of those old bull wheels laying around with the bolts in the spoke flange 8) so yeah it was a common mod i got my expert plate in mx on a 360 model 121 with the lightweight hubs, straight pull spokes so it weren't an issue
it looked just like this and in my ho as well as many others the best bultaco race bike ever made, that and the 250, the model 120 pomeroy replica which was the same model year run
it was 1974 in 1975 quality control took a giant shit :'(
