Plug caps should be 5K Ohms. If I understand the speedo gear question correctly, it should be held in place with a circlip on the interior of the hub.

Okay, thank you, sir. I'll look through my baggy of speedo parts for a circlip. Included with the bike were two speedo gear housings and a bunch of old wheel bearings. The other speedo housing is for a bike with a smaller axle...
If anyone recognizes it and needs it, I'll give it to you for shipping.

Unless he cannibalized a part for another build, the guy I bought the bike from was really great about keeping stuff together (threading bolts back into assemblies after removal, zip-tying related parts together, etc.) so it has really helped with assembly and makes me think the circlip will be around somewhere.

Honestly though, what's the point of the circlip? I assume it won't keep the assembly from rotating and it's already held in place by everything else on the axle. I reckon it keeps things tight so there's no undue wear on the speedo gear?

Re: CB360 box build - nearing completion

Sorry... I thought you were talking about the gear inside the assembly.

Re: CB360 box build - nearing completion

Need to improve my descriptive vocabulary of mechanical assemblies, apparently.

Re: CB360 box build - nearing completion

The speedo drive is clamped by the axle to hold everything together.
When axle is clamped into fork bottom, it can't turn
The 'tube nut' has the 'nut' side towards bearings on left side, the 'tube' part clamps into fork bottom

If anybody has a brake pedal spring, part number 16 on this IPB, I would love to buy it. Mines snapped where it connects, and while I think it would work, it would scratch the shit out of my fresh frame.

Re: CB360 box build - nearing completion

I might have one in my box of parts at home. I'll check after work.

Re: CB360 box build - nearing completion

Yup. Got one. $6 to sales@sparckmoto.com and I'll get it out into the mail.

Recieved the part, Matt. Thanks.

Focusing on wiring lately, and I am rapidly becoming very frustrated. I have a diagram, and everything seems to be hooked up to the point where I should be able to crank, but I get nothing.... Go to check some things and it turns out I have continuity between positive terminal and the frame with the key out and all switches to off. I thought I would be able to just plug and play the old harness, but I'm thinking I'll strip the tape and start from scratch. Wish me luck!

The coils I bought seem to be of high quality, and they test identically, which is a good sign of consistent manufacturing. They mounted right up to my old coil bracket. I will have to do some simple wiring, but these seem to be a really great option for anyone looking to replace their own cb360 coils.

I also just bought a pretty cheap Chinese 12v 7ah AGM battery. It got good reviews on Amazon. I figure I'll probably use the kick start most of the time anyways.

Edit: I will be replacing the plug caps. Any suggestions on resistance ratings? I'm clueless

Hey did you get around to wiring this coil up? I have a set of the same coils and just wondering if I wired mine up correctly. Is there going to be a difference in which is positive and which is contact breaker terminal?

Haven't gotten to the point of getting them working yet, but from everything I've read, it doesn't matter which terminal is which.

That was my first though now im second guessing it! lol

Re: CB360 box build - nearing completion

Theoretically, it does matter. In practice, not so much.

Re: CB360 box build - nearing completion

In practice it matters when you have a single ended coil.
The spark will jump whatever direction they are wired but it jumps from ground to center if wired 'backwards' which does need slightly higher voltage and could cause a miss-fire at high rpm.

Re: CB360 box build - nearing completion

Those coils have a positive and negative marks I just went back and double checked thanks to user "worse cb650 ever"
Here's a pic of mine

Re: CB360 box build - nearing completion

Every time I wire one of mine in backwards, (and it seems I do it every time I take one off)

I dont get any spark at low rpm (under 3000 +-), but she kicks in runs real good when I gas her. (above 3000 +-)

Re: CB360 box build - nearing completion

Are those connections soldered on?
If not, get some 1/4" insulated spade connectors

Yeah i fed it through the hole in the terminal and soldered then some electrical tape

Working on building a new battery box and somewhere to mount electronics. This is what I have so far for a battery box. Since I don't have access to a welding outfit at the moment, I'll be mounting it up with these rubber mounts and bolting the bent part of the tray to the flat section. I figure it will help keep vibration down a bit.

The current sheet metal I'm using is pretty thin (22 gauge) ... I'm considering making the flat section again out of a thicker piece. Do y'all think that would be necessary? I don't want it eventually failing on me.

EDIT: It should be said that only ~2/3 of the battery will be below the plane of the flat piece, so it will be held laterally by said piece.

On an unrelated note. I want one of these

Great process, I have an rd350 I got all in parts and I'll b e looking at this to see how you piece your's together!
