CB360 Cafe Project

Scored this Bell R/T at the local consignment shop today. $4.50! Haha. It's a little scratched up, and the padding is pretty much gone, but I'm still happy. I'm trying to figure out if this helmet is actually vintage or not. I'm assuming it is, because the only rating it has is the ANSI Z90.1-1971. It has R/T and 10-76 stamped on the chinstrap also. I'm doing some searching around right now, trying to date this thing. If anyone has any knowledge let me know.

Great looking project. I just got three bikes for free waiting until the snow and frost are gone to get them. CB200, Cb360, kaw 750 don't know the years or if they are dead or alive. LOL

Started my rearsets tonight. I based it on the typical design that's been in several threads here. I used 10mm I.D. bearings, bored the bmx pegs out to 10mm and bolted straight through everything to the stock passenger peg mount with an M10 x 1.25 pitch x 130mm long bolt. I just got the shift side done tonight. It obviously needs to be cleaned up quite a bit, but I am happy with the mock up. It shifts really smooth and the foot position is perfect. I'll get some spacers made up for the inside after know what width I want for sure. I drew this all up in CAD so once I get back and revise the drawings to what I actually built, I can post it up for anyone who's interested in a simple design.

Don't worry, that's not the toe lever I'm using, just need somethin' to grab onto....

HPIM2124.jpg

This is what I'll be doing with the brake side. The rod that cross's over the swingarm will be 5/16 for strength and adapted to the stock brake arm.

Modified the original clevis to accept a 6mm pin for the 6mm eye.

I think what your talking about are the clevis rod ends. I purchased all of the rod ends and the 5/16 round stock from McMaster -Carr @ mcmaster.com.

Man, I placed an order from them on a Thursday, had the box on Monday and they charged me $6 and some change to ship. That is awesome. I definitely will be ordering anything I can from them in the future. The only problem I saw, was that some of there smaller items, like fasteners, could only be bought in bulk through the webstore. Unlike Fastenal, where you can order piece by piece.

HA! 66replica has some pics of his bike sitting in his living room as well.... deny us not our passions, oh housing gods...

I have mine in the middle of my kitchen right opposite the woodburner.
I'm throwing the rugs out in the spring so no worries there.
Would have gone mad this winter if I hadn't been able to tinker in the long nights.

Lovely build by the way! In the throws of rearset construction too. Looking to pivot everything around M16 engineering bolts.

Bar position looks pretty radical. 8)
Can you move headlight mounts if you need to to put bars on top of them without dismantling a lot of stuff?
Nice angles on gear change, it should shift well with levers parallel

Yeah, it shifts really smooth and easy. I did my homework before I started.

As far as the bar position, I tried a couple of differant postions (including on top of the headlight) when I installed them. I like the where they're at now the best. As for control of the bike, I won't know until the build is done. If it's sketchy then, I will switch them. I'm all for radical looks, but not if it will sacrifice control.

Did some more work on my rearsets yesterday. I ended up doubling up the aluminum on the shift lever for strength. Also, cut a toe piece, which I have to finish. Might do some speed holes in the levers or something.

I made the brake lever but didn't finish the brake setup, because I don't have rear brake shoes. I don't want to finalize anything until I know the brake pull.

Doubled up shifter.....

Well, I've been working on this thing nearly every night, but when I get done nothing ever seems pic worthy. Haha. My fiance always yells at me saying "You spend so much damn time working on that thing at it never changes!".

I've been waiting on parts to get my controls done. My idea from the beginning was to get a complete rolling chasis, all the controls done how I want them, then the electrical, then the motor. I know if I build the motor now, I'm gonna skimp on a lot of stuff, so I can go ride! Once it's all good I'll take care of the cosmetics.

All moto controls up front is my idea. I've had a serious obsession/addiction with dirt bikes since I've been young. So, I thought I'd incorporate a little of that into my street bike.

I put a OE CR clutch lever/perch on there and I'm using a CR80 clutch cable. The cable bolted right up using the CB's collar going into the side cover, but it might be like 1" short. It'll work for now though.

I'm waiting on a master cylinder off of a "08 YZ450f . I wanted to use the the MC off of a CRF, which are WAY better, but the line bolted to the back of the resi. I think it would conflict with the bars. So, I went with the next best, YZ, on which the line bolts up to the front of the resi. Gonna get a brake line made up locally on Monday, too.

Also, got a new throttle and some brake pads coming from DCC.

Can't wait to get all that stuff done a set.

Keepin' busy though, burned up some bits this week......

Haha. It's in my basement/ lower level. I wish there was a wood stove there, but there's just a hearth and a mantle. The chimney had been removed from the outside of the house before we moved in.

Looking good! nice simple rear sets! One thing the angle of the shifter looks a little steep, is it comfy for you?

Yeah. The arms are almost parallel with the frame tubes coming down. I actually got on the bike, sitting in my natural riding position, and had my fiance take a photo of me. Then, kinda went from there. It turned out perfect.
