CB360 Cafe Project

Re: CB360 Cafe Project *Engine Time*

It's been a while, so here's an update....

I HATE painting! But...that Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy made it easier. I did my frame and swinger and I think it came out awesome. I did prime it, though the label on the paints said it was unnecessary. I'm no paint expert, I just thought primer was always a good idea? Anyway, it came out real solid, it's a tough paint.

So, frame painted, rear hoop welded up, aluminum cowl/wing fabbed up. Other than that, I just drilled more holes in every part that would accept them.

I'm planning my wiring harness now. I have an idea for a custom tail/brake light. Does anyone have suggestions for a cheap donor light? Preferably LED, maybe 2"-3" in dia. I'm doing a little research on building my own LED panel, but would prefer just to buy one to fit to my application.

Looking awesome man. I really like the seat and tiny fender thing on the rear. I am really thinking about doing something like that to mine. The frame looks really good to. Pipes look awesome. Are you going to throw some baffles in there or just leave them straight. Aren't those clip ons a little low?

Keep it up, its coming together great.

Thanks a lot. Yeah, the clip ons are low. Do I care? No. Haha. This thing is just for shreddin' up the little town I live in, so that's one area of my bike that style overtakes function.

Pipes will def have some sort of baffle in them. They will be wrapped too. Not sure on the baffle yet, probably something homemade using the FMF 4-stroke exhaust packing I've use in my moto bikes.

That seat came from two areas of my brain. One part that really really likes simplicity, and another part that really really likes bare aluminum plate.

Thanks again for the compliments.

Nice 360,

where did you get they Rear Sets?

i am looking at doing something very similar,

and yea, make sure u do somekind of baffle, i just got pulled over for too much noise comming out of an intersection. on mine

TO be honest I think these engines sound funny straight piped, mainly because they REV so fast they sound like bumble bees. I like a good low growl that I can get away from if I want too

Looking good MOTO, glad to see your keeping up, paint on the frame looks sweet as hell, that stuff is tough as nails too.

Have you looked at the tail lights at Dime City, they have a few "cat eyes" that might fit well under that fender. Ebay gets them now and then too. The LED panels can be bought but really, you can make them for prolly half the cost if you are handy with a soldering iron. I've looked at doing similar for my RV lights and the cost about 15-25 bucks a piece to buy and total cost to make them is around 5-10$ depending on the LED's. May also go check out a truck stop or a truck parts store, all the 18 wheelers are going to LED lights now because they don't burn out as fast.

Those are good ideas frogman. I've scoped out around town the past couple of days, (Tractor Supply, Local Trailer Shop, Hardware stores), and haven't seen anything I liked.

I think your right though, I'm better off building my own. That was my initial idea, but thought if I could find something that was already built (and more importantly, nicely sealed up) it would just save me some time. Might have to take a swing by radio shack tonight.

Thanks for the tips.

I couldn't figure out how to embed the video, but this is what I felt:

+1!!! Arnold beat me to it! I have been looking to do something simple like that too!

I really like the tail lights/this whole bike, probably going to try to get something like this for mine:

Here is the link to that whole bike:

Hahaaa! Nice! Thanks for the reaction video.

I've seen that duck before. That's one of the cleanest bikes I've ever seen. Super sweet!

I always tell myself K.I.S.S. when I'm working.....Keep It Simple STUPID!

the tail lights on that ducati can be found at a truck supply house. Lots of guys are using them as marker lights, just drilling a 1 in. hole and they pop right in

Hope everybody had a good holiday weekend! Even though we had some family in town from MI, I managed to sneak away for a little bit sunday morning.

Got the Mean Green Dyna's mounted up. I stared at it a while and this is what I came up with. Worked out great!

My plug wires and tune up kit came in from Z1 Enterprises on friday. That was my first time ordering from Z1, too. I was impressed, ordered on wednesday last week and the box was at my door on friday. Sweet. So, I got my plug wires cut and installed. I'll probably install the points tonight. I'm going to do some shopping after work and see if I can't get my ignition/charging circuits wired up tonight also.

Another thing I was really stoked about was modifying my clutch cable last week. I'm sorry I didn't get any pix of the process, I kind of jumped right into it. It did work out great though. I actually was able to use the cable end and ferrule that came on the cable (paid $9.99 shipped from ebay)! The cable was +10" new, but that didn't matter b/c I was shortening it from stock. It also gave me a little extra to do some testing on. After I cut the housing and cable to lengths, I used the discarded cable to flux and solder, just to see how it would work. One thing I noticed, is that if the cable was not completely clean, it would not "accept" the solder. It would bead right off. Now I couldn't say what to use to clean the cable, because if a piece of cable was to dirty I would just make a fresh cut on new cable. For flux, I just used whatever they had at the local hardware, pretty universal/common stuff. For the solder, I think it was 50% tin/ 50% lead, again from the local hardware. I splayed the end of the cable really well after I pushed it through the cable end. After I soldered it, a little filing was needed for clean up.

I installed it and it is perfect. The cable end is on there and there is no way it is coming off. Sweeet!

Not all of the hardware is on those coils yet. Gotta swing by fastenal on my way home tonight & pick up my order of SS goodies.

Looks pretty damn good to me, will be interesting to see how well they work. How close were they to mounting into the original coil mounts? I know they are about the same.

Pretty close. I used the stock holes through the frame and had to get longer bolts. They are a lot wider, but there is still plenty of room when the tank is on. The mounting holes on the coils are a little wider than the holes through the frame, so that's why I had to make up the blocks to mount them.

If I can find a few extra dollars in my budget, I'll put some in line resistors in there to bring it up to 4-5 Ohms.

Got my new points installed last night. I ended up stripping back the cloth wire that was on there originally and resoldering the connectors that mount to the points. It improved continuity, but then again, it wasn't really bad to begin with.

Thanks. None to show off just yet. I've been collecting random taillight parts over the past couple of weeks, but I haven't put anything together yet. I do have a really cool idea, which I don't want to let out of the bag just yet, at least until I try it.

All I wanted to get done this week is get my ignition circuit wired up, but haven't got past the points and coils. lol. Not very far! I ended up relocating my battery and messing with where I want to put my components. Which I'll still be working on tonight.

I am pleased with the new battery box I made up tho! I'll post some pix when I finish tonight to see what you guys think.
