Now you've got me intrigued. How do you put it in wrong...Is there a specific way the lobes face when putting in...I'm going to have to dig through my pics again. As I now have the exact same problem. Timing is spot on (according to my not-so-spot-on blinker and wire hookup!) and she sounds like she wants to fire, but won't.
OK... so the cam gear has a couple of marks on it.
Those marks should be level with the top of the head when the left piston is at top dead center. Top dead center is verified by lining up the LT mark on the end of the rotor (underneath the alternator cover on the left side of the engine).
Well shit. I did that, and the marks line up. I was wondering if maybe you could have it 180 degrees (as you can have those lines lined up upside down as well right?) So maybe I'm just failing miserably this week on setting points...even though I've had to do it a billion times.
EDIT: SHE LIVES AGAIN!! I thought I was invincible to doing something so "easy" as to accidentally switch the plug wires....ugh. Pulled left spark plug out, and watched it spark when the right plug was supposed to, and vice versa.
Feisti, I hope you get her figured out. Make sure your battery is topped up too! The CB I'm working on is kick-only. E-start looks nice my legs were killing me after attempting to get it started backwards...
Sonreir, is there a way to verify that the head is getting oiled correctly? I took a video and it seems a tad noisier than I would like. I can double check the tappet clearances again, as they may be a little loud (hopefully you can hear it in the video) I'll re-set the chain tensioner as well just in case.
On a side note...I did pull one off, I wasn't kidding about being a smartass. It did NOT shoot oil all over me, which scares me, as I JUST replaced the head on this one...
After spinning my engine w the drill and socket on the crankshaft. about 20-25 rotations. I bent a plastic wire tie and w a flash light I fished it in the head cover through the valve adj holes and managed to dip the end into the little bath tubs under the cam. It was a minor pain the butt to get it in there. but I found they filled w oil.

Rock on. It was my paranoid brain getting the best of me. I opened the cap, and raised the rpm's a little...yeah there's oil....ha! I just didn't want to replace a head again....
