Hi,
I am ready to start my bike up after doing a partial rebuild on the motor this winter and want to make sure I have everything ready to go. It had a blown head gasket and weak compression so I had the cylinders honed and got new rings. The top end looked fine with no pitting on the rockers or cam. The journals looked fine also.
On reassembly, the ring gap was perfect out of the box and I've checked compression by kickstarting it and got 170 psi. Timing and valves have been checked. I know on these bikes its easy to have the spark mechanism flipped 180 degrees but I never took it off of the cam when I took the motor apart and checked the valves to make sure I was TDC on compression so I think my spark is good and timed on the right cycle. I also adjusted the clutch and brakes and they feel fine.
My main concern is that I've changed my exhaust and intake setup from last year and the motor won't run correctly to break in the new rings in time. Last year, even with a blown head gasket it actually ran fine with the stock air boxes and some 12" straight through mufflers from DCC. I picked up some scrambler pipes and am running them without mufflers. I found some 8" baffles on ebay and put them in the pipes wrapped in fiberglass insulation. On the carbs I have some no-name ebay pods that I'm afraid will make the bike run like crap. I cut out the mounts for the stock air boxes and really don't want to run them (for hipster-style points of course). I know pods will never run as well as a stock air box but would Uni's or K&N's be a better option?
From what i've heard, cb360's can run okay with pods by adjusting the fuel mixture. I have never had to do that on this engine since it always ran fine before I took it apart.
Sorry for the wall of text but basically I'm just looking for some tips or anything I missed on a first start with new rings, and new intake/exhaust setup.
