CB550 Cafe Racer ..... It is finally done

Re: CB550 Cafe

Hi lovely work. Can you tell me about your rear fender? I realise you have made the item but is the actual fender part pre made? If so where could i buy one? I need one similair for my build but I can't seem to find one on the internet.
Thanks. :)

Yeah that rear fender is farkin cool! Would love to fab something similar for my bike and would appreciate some pointers on how it's achieved.

Also the rear sits beautifully, have you out longer shocks on? Some info on that also would be fantastic.

Re: CB550 Cafe

Thanks guys for the compliments, the 6.5" wide rear fender was just an ebay purchase. I wish I could give more info on it but it was purchased from my last build. The rear shocks are 14" eye to eye. I should be getting these back from the painter some time soon.

I did a quick search on 6.5" fenders and there was some that came up fromm 75$ and up. I did however cut about a half inch off the fender to match the radius of the tire. It looks off in the photos but once it is bolted down, it will all line up. The fender will be bolted down by 3 10mmx1.25 bolts. The chain guard part was cut up from a Triumph guard I had laying around. I really wanted to have this just in case there was an accident with a broken chain or the pilot slipping off rear controls.

here are some new photos

Re: CB550 Cafe

Ya, I have to +1 that fender set up. Prob gonna rip that off.

CB550 Cafe

GoingsMoto I have scoured eBay but struggling to find something that would act as a suitable donor for a hugger :(

Care to point me in the right direction, all I could find were plastic actual huggers.

Re: CB550 Cafe

I got the studs welded up so that it will appear that the fender is just sitting on the bike, and I got the shocks in.

How does that fender mount? Did you drill through the swingarm?

Loving the stance of this thing!!! What else have you done to achieve that other than longer shocks?

This is a killer build, your going to have 1 happy customer and a tonne of envious DTT'ers ;)

Re: CB550 Cafe

Yeap. . A gentleman in Cal. (Found him on Ebay) takes your core carbs. goes though a complete tear down, cleaned, blasted and baked them to whatever color you want (My customer wanted all black & polished). then re-plate all steel parts zinc, and polished the alum parts, Installed all new internals, Told him the bike setup 4-1 exhaust running open intake velocity, set it up on running bike and syn'ed all four carbs with the correct main and pilot jets then sent them my way - Very pleased !!.

His name is Bob, his ebay ID is "kpruyne",

Couldn't have done it myself any cheaper. . gave me time to work on other things that needed my attention

Re: CB550 Cafe

Yep,

I got a lot of little things done over the past few days. (mainly mockup)

Re: CB550 Cafe

Real nice build, I like the way the lines follow up.
The rearfender and the subframe, the seat tank and headlight, all the same flow.

Oooooooooh, it gets better and better.

Love that muffler, doing something similar for my build but with straight section rather than a cone, good to see it looks AWESOME!

Have to say that Bonita Applebum peaked my cafe interest but this build is bang on for my tastes. Each part makes the bike better and better [/arse kissing] ;)

Edit: btw what clip ons are those, they look great and appear to be quality CNC.

Re: CB550 Cafe

Hey GoingsMoto,

Very slick build so far, great detail everywhere. Could you give me some info about the alternator cover? Godfery's cb overkill has some similar cover (transparant..) and i can't seem to find em.

Re: CB550 Cafe

Hey Bert Jan, I hope no one has a alternator cover like mine. I just machined it in school a couple months ago, I will be selling them on my web site under CB parts. But I think you are talking about the points cover, in that case I got it from Dime City Cycles. http://www.dimecitycycles.com/vintage-cafe-racer-caferacer-bobber-brat-chopper-custom-motorcycle-electronic-parts-honda-cb350f-cb400f-cb550-cb750-right-side-ignition-points-cover-clear-18-9504k.html

And Neevo, I got the clip ons from Dime City as well, they are the Vortex 35mm clip-ons.

Thanks for all the compliments, + Dime City is a great place for CB parts.

Re: CB550 Cafe

Very nice build! What headlight did you use? Any details would be great. I was already thinking about a headlight that angles back like yours. It gives it that aesthetic flow that I want on my bike too (down front, up back).
