Cb550 Rearset Mounting

Pretty cool, but I'm not too sure about the u-bolt type mount. Wouldn't a handlebar style clamp be much stronger? Just sayin'! :p
Really no difference in the strength unless you use more than 2 bolts or a larger diameter bolt. by the way the ubolts are 1/4" stainless which has a tensile strength of around 100,000psi. The way they use the bottom engine mount bolt, and sit against the tube frame, there is no movement at all once they are tightened up.
thanks,
Bill

Picked up a set of these from Willy D and finally got them all mounted up. My goal was to get brackets that I wouldn't have to make permanent modification to the bike, and be able to let the wife still use the passenger pegs. Only ridden on them two days but so far everything has been going well with them.

Very slick lookin, but, those passenger pegs are getting a little too cosy with your new footpegs.

They are pretty cosy.. but the wife was able to make it work as long as im not taking the twisties to hard with her on there.

Im glad they work out where you can still use the passenger pegs-I didn't design them with that in mind, i was going for rider fit. :)

What did you use for your linkages and arms, was it all from Tarozzi

My linkage still needs a little work. The shifter side works great but the rear brake is lacking in function. It works but not like it use to.

I make the rods myself by just taping some rod. The other parts I just pieced together from sites. If you want to know exactaly what I got I can dig up my receipts.

Did you cut off the original brake pedal arm and attach the new brake rod to the existing brake... what should I call it ... center bolt? Looks like a friction clamp of some sort onto that in order to maintain the brake light assembly, etc.. I've also seen people weld to that center bolt.

What I did to mine was to cut off the stock brake lever and weld a tab to the top of it so I could attach the rod from the rearset. The return spring and brake light attachment are all stock.

Does the kick start still work with this bracket

"Does the kick start still work with this bracket"

You can make it work if you either get the fold up pegs or heat and bend your kickstart lever.

this is one of the easier bikes to mount rearsets....just use the aft peg/muffler hangers..strong and located at a reasonable position.

Some people may find the rear pegs too far back to be comfortable.

you can never make something that will fit everyone that is for sure. but for the average person this works fine, i have done this on a few 550's and both riders liked the position. on the 550 race replica it worked out great both in fit and operation... or you could fab/weld on a bracket where ever you want, again simple stuff...
