cb750 build

Been Around the Block
Hey guys! Just wanted to show off a little progress on my '78 cb750 build. So far I've added clip-ons and shaved the triple tree top, installed Tarozzi rearsets, relocated the battery, moved the oil tank to a temporary position right behind the carbs, lowered the front a couple inches and gave the rear a shorter pair of Progressive shocks, installed a Mac 4 into 1, fabricated a fiberglass tail, got rid of the entire gauge cluster and installed a simple little bicycle computer (very clean), and generally shed many pounds of steel. Probably did a few other things I'm forgetting to mention. The paint job is a temporary rattle can job, still trying to decide on the final paint. Oh, and her name is Nadine.

gotta love an F...lol

why lower the bike? normally on a car that helps handling but its the opposite on a bike

Hope & pray you never need piston rings for the F! Took me 2 months to find 1!
Cool bike!

Yeah, this is a racer by name only. I like the stance just a bit lower. PePe, is the F engine really all that different? I was under the impression the SOHC engine didn't change, so all rings would fit. So far, though, no problems with the engine.

The F bikes have some motor differences to the K bikes.
then the 78 is and all together different beast.
big valve head...but shot by 30K
Im not sure how hard rings are to get, custom sets can be had for anything soooo....

the SOHC4 forum is amazing for getting them tuned and working as well as they can.

nice man got a 76f in the garage now getting ready to start the same thing maybe ? never done a cafe just all original before i have a 76 with 1646 miles its a beauty but i really want a sleak cafe to set beside it . how much fab work was there to getting the tank and seat to fit . got any pictures

I've made a bit more progress. It still needs some jetting fine tuning, and a real paint job, and other odds and ends, but Nadine is starting to get the look I want.

Looking good so far. That front fender needs some choppin or total removal if I were asked... Also I like the mags on some bikes and yours looks good with them. What are your future plans?

I want to see more about that intake...

If you remove the fender you might want to think about adding a brace. you can get nice 5 piece ones for about $100

The stock fender acts as a brace believe it or not and is important to maintaining the handling of the bike

What, you've never seen a grand prix style side draft intake?

Yeah, I made that part up. I knew someone would ask. That intake is built from PVC plumbing. Stock air boxes are a pain in the ass to wrestle with, and I also wanted to clear up some room for the oil tank I built that nestles between the frame right behind the intake, so I built this. I'll attach a photo below. The volume of air is similar to stock, and I attached it to the carb intakes with rubber plumbing couplers cut to half their length. Obviously with the 4 into 1 exhaust I still have some rejetting to do, but it's not as radical as four pod filters. I can mount one pod filter to either end of this intake, or close off one end if less air is better.

In other words, I went hillbilly style. It also works great!

At some point I'm going to ditch that front fender and machine an aluminum fork brace, but that's getting down to details that just don't matter yet. Hell, I just got the rear brakes working right.

Actually there is a brace inside the fender that performs most of the fork bracing duty. You can drill out the four rivets, sand and paint, drill to taste, and viola: Fender brace!
Surrfly> Where can you find these 100 dollar braces?

I see. I'm looking for one for an early K and all I have found is more than 100 by a good bit. But I've also been away from all things motorcycle for a bit. Seems like the aftermarket has grown substantially in the last year.

Yup thats the one.
not 100% sure about the K2 bikes...they use the same forks K2-K6 right? tarrozi doesnt make a brace?
i know that they dont for the K0-K1

If you have have even a small amount of fabricating skills it seems like you could easily modify one of those $100 Tarozzi's. As long as the fork diameter is the same all you would have to do is build a new bridge between the two mounts, since that brace is in three sections.

But obviously my default setting is to build things myself. That intake may be cheap, but but the bike runs like crazy!

That's a pretty interesting intake ya got there. If you ever decide to have the bike on a dyno, it would be interesting to see what the difference between your stock setup and the PVC manifold is. If it's the same or better, you might have invented the 'better than pods' intake mod!

Tarrozi makes one and it's pretty, but it's stupid high. And as far as modifying a 100 dollar one, I'll just fab one from scratch probably.
Glad the intake works out. It's neat lookin.

Hey Deviant, if you look closely at that $100 dollar one I posted the link for, I'm pretty sure it says Tarozzi. I'm starting to look even more seriously at this.

A couple other mods: I wanted to keep the front end nice and clean, so I replaced the speedo with a little bicycle computer. I'm also posting a pic of the oil tank I built. As for the mags, those are the stock comstars, they're just not as ugly as some variations. I haven't decided if they're going to make the final cut. They're great wheels as far as being rock solid. Looks? Well...
