CB750SS Build..

Well I hope I am not killing more dreams, but....I have seen some 750's with relocated oil bags, but I have read tons of reliables sources say that it is best not to mess with a 750's oil system!

well if I have to accept that I can live with it...I mean it would still be a cool bike...and you seems a reliable source...I also noticed that Carpy doesn't relocate any of his builds and he has been around long time...

dude the more I think about my build....the more I realize I gotta plan it out rather than just jumping in there and regretting things since I have no experience in this...

Cool build man. I say build it how YOU want it. Trust me, you will get arguments and naysayers, but it is all the more fun in the end.

Coy, koodos on Gretta!!! just wondering what profession ur in? and how many years experience on bikes? that build was motorcycle mechanics and enginnering combined..

Whew! Just read this from the beginning.

I will be the first to admit, I don't know squat about 750's. But don't be afraid to make mistakes - there's a lot to be learned from your own (and others) mistakes!

There is a reason for that....hmmm!

This is a great idea, remember what I said about BasmentRats 750 build! His real problem was/is he has very little to no experience, he jumped into it with no REAL planning, he felll in love and married parts that will not work for his bike, and he is trying to do mods that are way way beond his current skill level!

Remember, this is the first of many, this is an addiction and a lifestyle. The more you build, the better you will become at all of the aspects of a build. Just start with simple mods, tank and tail swap, shave the signal or swap to smaller, shave fenders, ...ect. Think of swaps and very simple fabs and then body and paint work. Hell just disasymbling an reasymbling will teach you a ton more than you know now. I am asuming you have almost no experience considering your current tool collection. Every bike you build will become more and more complex and more and more custom! You will get there, but there is no fast lane to building your true dream bike! Baby steps!

I do not recomend tank swap for your bike though!

Damn...changing your name to DreamKiller.....but thx for the heads up...now give me solutions not disappointments!!!!! thx Killa!!
Not trying to kill any dreams. Trying to open your eyes to reality. I've seen too many people get bikes, huge dreams and plans to go with them. Only too soon after hacking a once fairly decent and usable bike into a worthless pile of parts do they realize that their dream bike is beyond their means of money, tools, and abilities. There are only a few people here that know what I'm talking about, and are able to see what I am trying to say, and agree with me. A good quality custom bike requires patience, money, imagination, some skill, and the common sense to execute the project to a properly functioning, and enjoyable custom bike.

I agree with killer on most of what he said, and it is good advise!

Just to show you what you can do with a very limited budget and few tools! Now this did take more than "some skill" and tons of ingenuity!

We dont mean to bring anyone down, hell, I've got the tools/skill and time to do a project thats pretty in depth. But sometimes the build will proress in other directions once you start a build...it starts taking shape and just flows in an entirely different direction. Mine was supose to be a quick hardtail and paint...hack some shit off and call it a day. Now its in a milion pieces and the end product will be far more fun than the original vision.

In short...plans will change, trust me LOL. Go with the flow ;D

Thanks for advice and support "Mister Miagi"...you are displaying yourself as a good mentor to all NewB's... my original plan was simple for the 750SS like tank and seat; fenders; clip-on and eliminating tach...oil relocation can always wait til' the end if I really wana tackle it... started 4 weeks ago and the first two weeks were just buying project bikes...went a little crazie but at least I have them there...my adventurious build will be the 350 Scrambler I got which I know I'll definitely learn from...I mean got it for $300 and engine turns freely...

Twisted...why not swap my 1976 CB750SS tank for the 1970 CB750 KO tank...its has cleaner lines and look alot like my inspiration build...
Here is my seat prospect:

actually hand an idea based on this bike that I may just use the stock cowl but shorten it, place a better flushed light and re-upholster it......will be able to keep stock look with a cafe flare...will experiment..

That will work good and look really clean! Swap to some clip-ons and some rear sets and you will have a nice little scoot!

Bump up the HP a bit with a nice pipe, some pods, and rejet the carbs. Then a bit of paint and you have your first custom cafe!

That is a great plan!

There you go I'd rock that. Like twisted said some clip ons rearsets 4-1 and cut up a seat voila instant cafe. then you have one to rock while building another one.

Now I know where those pictures of the Loch Nest Monster came from! That seat  Pull the cover, carve it into something nice, re cover it properly, and that bike will look sweet!!!

Well I'm glad you guys agree.....ordered some parts which should be in 10 days... gonna start disassembling lights ,pegs etc.end of this week...work alwasy gets in the way but I guess it makes riding that much sweeter...

.....and still trying to get proper tools off my list...anyone know how I stop myself from buying these bikes...my girl thinks I have lost my mind with the "cafe Craze" as she calls it...lol

So anyone like the Alimunum Seat I posted for my original SS build? I don't know if I should order it?

Killa...funny thing is that my girl liked sitting her tight ass on that seat....now I know why...must be the monster under her bum you speak of...

kinda surprised you suggested I re-fabricate a rare original seat...JK

That is no original seat! And the only thing that would make it rare is the fact that anyone who had one, destroyed it!
