Copycat 1981 GL1100 Goldwing

I've seen it done over on NGW.com with an electric carving knife and they can turn out pretty nice. There is a lot of foam to work with under that cover. That way you can still ride two up if you want.
But if you plan on riding solo 100% of the time... Might see if you can find an old Corbin Gunfighter on e-bay cheap, or a Hotwings glass unit, they were both for the earlier GL1000's but seem to fit and look pretty nice on a 1100

Will have to retain the two up as the wife and daughter want to ride along on occasion. Wanting a seat like the black and white bike in the end so need to do on the cheap for now.

My GL seat is a king queen giant ass cup cut down. My cover is a little crappy but waa made from reminant horae hide for 40 bucks. You can do nice vinyl for that. Electirc knife cuts like butter and leaves a smooth finish.

Good to know, I will give the knife a try before the seat pan hits the trash. Rear turn signals on and the sliding seat feature defeated with a couple of regular bolts.

Took the bike to work this morning. I am amazed how stable these things are. When it starts to roll you put your feet up as it just goes straight, no wandering whatsoever. Well aside from a front fender this might be it on this bike for the summer as I have 3 other projects to tinker with I am of the mind to just ride this one. See you in October for at least a seat, mufflers and paint.

Nice! I'd have no problem riding her the was she is... Without going back and re-reading the entire thread, Did you replace the timing belts or know the last time they were done?

Brand new belts, oh a fairing from DCC might be in order also, time will tell. Thanks Scott.

Looks like my neighbor went out and bought himself a bike, man it hurts my eyes looking at all that chrome.

Offered him $500 as he couldn't get it started, no thanks. Not about to go higher. http://spokane.craigslist.org/mpo/4441914208.html

Well here is where I'm at: the tank and seat pan for the cx are at the shops, the head for the 550 is STILL at the shop and I can't tear into the 750 as I already have one engine in pieces, that's my limit. So here I am attempting to get a front fender on this bike. I tossed the plastic one and purchased one from a cb900 which bolted up to the forks fine but sat on the front tire, literally. So I got a fender off a 78 gl1000 which bolted up fine but due to the smaller tire on this bike it was way too hi. So I drilled out all the rivets and used the bracket from the gl1000 but cut it down.
and in half which due to fact that the bike has a fork brace will be just fine.
Now to get the cb900 fender welded back together and bolted on.

Heh Heh... Sportster take-off's...Nice grab.
LOVE the sound of mine on the GL. If you use the later GL1000 headers and some adapters from the auto parts store, they line right up to the rear foot peg mounts and a short hanger is all you need.

God I love that seat...
In all honesty, I am thinking of putting the stocker seat back on mine. I picked up a minty freash OEM piece and the grab bar for nothing... and thinking some saddle bags... Wifey loves to ride and wants to go places.

The wife and daughter do like it. I might just take it down to the plastic this winter, remove the rear most hump and see what the upholster thinks.

i have an earlier 75-76 seat on mine i love being able to slide back on th seat and move around on long trips

yet being able to ride 2 up with no problems

its now running mint time for some cosmetics

I have the build information for the bike you like on the original post because that was the bike that made me decide I wanted to build a goldwing next.

I used google translate to put the site in English.
