In Michigan it's not that difficult to gain a new title or "convert" one bike to say a CX500. The DMV mainly wants the tax money.

Didn't yet. But it looks like a cx500 to me.

I have not laughed like that at a written phrase for a while. Nice work.

Choppers make me giggle like a little school girl when I'm following behind them... But they are behind a tractor trailer. Those ape hangers and forward controls make it look like they got splattered on the back.... And then I ride by. Stand up on the pegs and fart.

That's fine mike, I don't want you to like it. After years of road racing on a track I don't find much thrill in pretending to ride fast on the street. So I ride smaller bikes. Before this I had a 50cc step-in scooter that was modified to do 80mph and would keep the front end if the ground until 40mph. But I'm sure thats worth farting on too. This bike will be around 75BHP and weigh around 165lbs. I can put my weight on my ass and don't have to stand up to ride it.

This bike wanted to be a chopper, that's just what motor and geometry and tires all said. I just wanted to build a sweet custom bike for the hobby of building bikes. The next project i have is a gt750 3cylinder water cooled 2 stroke. It really wants to be a 30's style big wheeled board tracker, maybe you like those better.

What I like is the ability of this (or other unconventional) bikes to illicit such strong response and stir harmless controversy, much fun. Great bike.

be a good idea to gusset the backbone where it ties together with the rear

I cut the old frame right in the middle of the top motor mount bracket so that is a gusset on the bottom of the backbone tube. I also cut and fit the backbone at a 45° mitre to add extra strength to that point.

The lower tubes have a gusset as well. I was going use bungs to join the pieces but I wanted to leave the tube hollow so I can run my wiring inside of the frame.

I suppose I like that part too. I just don't like the part of humanity where we have to hate anything that is different than ourselves.

Hey man,

I've been watching your thread for quite some time and for what its worth "I" think your build is sweet, creative and will be awesome to see it on the road. As was eluded to above, the "controversy" is entertaining as hell and I wanted to commend you on your professional, yet direct manner in which you've handled the comments.

Keep the updates coming! I'm looking forward to seeing this thing on the road.

the lower tubes are the prob, you need to triangulate where the lower motor mount connects on the motor side. You've created a high stress area and the downward force from the tail n neck/backbone is going to try to crush the tube.

A triangle like this? You can see the stock middle/lower motor mounts are where the stock frame ends. The rear (swingarm) mount is on the new frame and I believe that is 2 triangles if you consider the motor to be capable of supporting weight
