Re: CX500 "Bastardwing" - 21st May - A little undecided on the gauges.
I'm just about to take the plunge on a speedo but not sure which one to buy.
The first one is the Acewell 3100. I like it as it's small and simple, doesn't have a fuel gauge which I don't need and the speed reading is large and takes up most of the screen. It doesn't have any idiot lights but that's ok as I already made up a light panel some time ago. What I don't like is it's grey and square.
The second one is the Acewell 2853. I like the size and the fact it's round and the chrome and black would go nicely with the rest of the bike. What I don't like is there is no bucket on the back (which is easily fixed), there's a redundant fuel gauge, and the readout would be a lot smaller than the 3100.
I am planning on fitting a GPS to the bike on occasion so the 3100 might pair up nicely if I did that. Then again, the round Acewells are so neat and tidy.
Whichever way i decide to go I'll be grabbing this speedo cable hall sensor adaptor to go in where the original speedo cable would normally go.
Re: CX500 "Bastardwing" - 21st May - A little undecided on the gauges.
I might use one of those Sigma's on my SR500. That or one of the Acewell gauges for enduro's. No battery needed (SR will have a capacitor) and I've eliminated the speedo cable from the front wheel.
Re: CX500 "Bastardwing" - 21st May - A little undecided on the gauges.
I've had the Acewell 2853 on my streetfighter for a number of years and it's been fantastic. It's the round one in the black "pod" and it's been out in all sorts of weather without issue (that's one thing I've heard about the square ones - they can get water in them :-\ ).
Far, far better than a bicycle computer - which is what the Sigma is even if it does go to 199mph.
Re: CX500 "Bastardwing" - 21st May - A little undecided on the gauges.
Well that's a shining recommendation for the round acewell, which i was already leaning towards. Some of those shift lights and other things look pretty good but i do actually want a tacho and I'm wanting to keep it in one device with the speedo.
Re: CX500 "Bastardwing" - 25th May - Gauge has arrived.
It's the 2853. I'm looking forward to getting it mounted. I'll probably have to go out there Sunday afternoon as there's lots on the rest of the weekend.
Re: CX500 "Bastardwing" - 25th May - Gauge has arrived.
I'm pretty stoked with the speedo drive option too. That 38XX is similar to the 3100 I was looking at getting. I ended up deciding the round one was smaller and neater for my purposes though. However, they seem to be a great piece of kit no matter which one you get.
Re: CX500 "Bastardwing" - 25th May - Gauge has arrived.
Paul, the speedo drive option isn't explained very well IMO. In the instructions it has a chart with generic tire sizes, but that's for the magnetic reed sensor. The speedo drive sensor takes the speedo ratio into the equation.........kinda. Let me know when you get close to that part and I'd be happy to give more details.
