Re: CX500 minor bob job - Wiring is done almost time to test ride??
Ok. So clutch works now. Let the bike get fully warm and then tried again. Needs adjustment but works. Front brake is shit, needs a re-bleed soft and barely stops her. Got her to redline in 1-4 but not 5th. Needs some tuning but 4tg gear 9k rpm feels pretty fast so not far off. I need to mount a speedo but it is currently on the gl. So still some work. Temp gauge didnt work but fan kicked on when bike got hot so that is working. Time to final paint and fix leaking carb and ride her for what is left of the season. Need to mount license plate too i suppose, and add her to the insurance lol.

Did another rip up the road. 1/4 throttle is a little crappy, from there to full throttle is good. Checked plugs after a good run and not too bad to start from. There is some popping on decel and throttle close but really not to far off I think. Fires right up without choke and idles fine.
Re: CX500 minor bob job - Wiring is done almost time to test ride??
Thanks Rich. Cxman I do need to order some new exhaust crush washers but there didnt seem to be any leaks around either header or at any of the other joints.
Ok so I sanded and primed came out nice and smooth. Tonight i washed with soap and water, wet sanded the primer, rinsed washed dried. Sprayed the colour coat and fer fucks sake I got wrinkles. Everytime I use tge metal cast I get wrinkles. I didnt do heavy coats. There is not one run in the whole thing, but half way through drying there they are. I have just enough paint left to do one more coat after sanding out the wrinkles. This makes the 3rd tank in this paint and the third I have had to wet sand and recoat. The tail came out smooth with no wrinkles and it was prepped exactly the same. Oh well. Pics.

I hear ya man, I've been there. Go even SLOWER and do the dusting before you coat it. It's explained in the rattle can paint job "bling" thread. It's worked for me quite well. Do a dusting about 15 inches away or so maybe a little more. Let that dry and then go ahead and coat it. Good luck sir! I dig the color.
Re: CX500 minor bob job - Wiring is done almost time to test ride??
ALso, thanks to Kamns link I am not putting the vaccum petcock back on, that thing was a mess when I pulled it for paint so I sent the link to the future rider to get one ordered. Also had to order a new used throttle assembly the one on the bike has the screw inserts all cracked out and won;t tighten, I tried 3 different glues and epoxies to hold them back in but all of them crack out again when you tighten the screws. Found a couple on ebay in the 25-30 range so we'll grab one of those. So Need to decide if we are doing any stripes or accents on the tank, I was thinking something in the Gunmetal colour I did the wheels with a cream or white pinstripe. I think I got this design from Kamns white bike, I need to go check it out again but wherever it came from it fits the shape of the tank. This with maybe a white honda wings.
Re: CX500 minor bob job - Wiring is done almost time to test ride??
That stripe would look killer along with the Honda wing, but the older Honda emblem
If you need any parts let me know, like the switch housing on the throttle side, I have a few
Re: CX500 minor bob job - Wiring is done almost time to test ride??
Cool Kamn, that is what I need the switch/Throttle housing. Let me know how much and if Bruce hasn't ordered one yet I'll get one from you. I was just checking the logo's and I think the vintage would be best too.
Re: CX500 minor bob job - Test ride success, on to final paint and pretty things Up
Yay. So a wetsand and light coat, followed by a little heavier coat and we are gtg on the color coat. On another front, after a week in vinigar the front fender came out rust free and ready for under coating. This thing had a ton of rust and it is now clean as a whistle. Chrome as good as new except where road rashed.
Re: CX500 minor bob job - Test ride success, on to final paint and pretty things Up
Thanks Scott, I am pretty sure it is stolen from another CX tank I saw but I like it. Fun part will be masking it and painting it without shagging it up. I got all the wrinkles out of the base colour so I am letting it cure well before I attempt to mask off a stripe etc. Can't decide if I will do cream or the gunmetal accent colour I have already used on the wheels and other body bits.
Re: CX500 minor bob job - Test ride success, on to final paint and pretty things Up
OK, so thanks to Kamn in TO I will have the throttle part I will need to fix that and he linked me a nice new non vac petcock so that is ordered and on the way. I also picked up new fuel line and an inline filter cause the tank has some fine rust, not a lot and I will clean it but filter is just in case. So paint is progressing, stripe is almost done, not sure if I should do something on the cowel or leave it bare.
Re: CX500 minor bob job - Test ride success, on to final paint and pretty things Up
nice work Mike!
Fill the tank with white vinegar and leave it sit for a day or so, then a really good rinse with water, then dry the best you can, and then put in a half gallon of gas with a heavy 2 stroke (synthetic) oil mix and slush around really well to coat the inside........it will be like new again
