CX500 minor bob job - whooooot issues solved goes like a bat out of hell, for an old bike at least

Re: CX500 minor bob job - Wheels and Frame painted!

Nice work Alpha Dog!

Re: CX500 minor bob job - Wheels and Frame painted!

Nice work Alpha, that is at a whole nother level of details. MIne should be clean but won't get there. AS for the Duc fans, they seem to be used because they are low draw, slim and stock fans get upgraded by the Duc boys and gals so they get sold off cheap. I have a couple models bookmarked for when we get to that step. I also found a switch that threads into the drain hole on the rad and my drain bolt got buggered in disassembly so it will replace and add a switch.

Re: CX500 minor bob job - Wheels and Frame painted!

Re the fan, most fun rides I go on I'm moving quick enough that my electric fan doesn't even come on :)

Cheers
Steve

Nice work mike looks mint !!!

Re: CX500 minor bob job - Wheels and Frame painted!

Well no pics but I did manage to get one of the forks apart to do the seals. Po or someone in the past really buggered the alloy where the dust seal seats so the space between the dust seal and oil seal was full of dirt. I have boots ordered so I cleaned up then boots should keep dirt out. Other than that, not bad. I will get the second done and decide if I am painting the lowers or just cleaning. One has rash from some accident. Any way forward motion. Will hopefully have some pic worthy stuff soon.

Re: CX500 minor bob job - What to do with rasged firk lowers?

Ok so bothe sets of forks are apart. New seals ready. They were full of water and oil to make a nice sludge. Before I re-assemble. I want some opinion on what to do to the fork lowers. There is some rash on one and Polish is too hare to maintain. I have lots of the wheel paint left and could use that or use the hammered black. What do y'all think woukd look best? I am putting gators on so there will be no chrome legs above. Pics

Re: CX500 minor bob job - Wheels and Frame painted!

I think you are right Scott. I will sand and fill that rash and hit them with the hammered black. It is pretty tough stuff I tested the coating on the brake stay by hitting it with a hammer and it didn't leave a mark.

Re: CX500 minor bob job - Wheels and Frame painted!

Looking Mike!

Gretta has had appliance epoxy on her lowers for years and it's still holding strong. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Re: CX500 minor bob job - Wheels and Frame painted!

Thanks Kiley, that is another option. I need to check how much hammered black is left, if I need to buy I will get the black appliance epoxy for sure.

Re: CX500 minor bob job - Wheels and Frame painted!

Well had enough hammered black to do the fork lowers and being 80 out I did them. Pics. Turned out alright.

Re: CX500 minor bob job - Forks sealed and table built, assembly soon.

No pics yet, will get some later today, weekend saw the fork seals in, just need to find my little measuring cup to fill the forks and they are complete. Got the table almost finished. Need 2 more 4x2's and some loops to hook tiedowns too but that is one step closer to assembley. So I need to finish cleaning the engine up and then I can start bolting things back to the frame. We will be picking up paint etc. over the next week and if the weather stays as nice I will get the tins done, Still need a fan, have to just go to the used bike parts guy, he has a bucnch. Tip for anyone doing fork seals. The freezer is your friend. I did the first and it was stupid hard to get it seated to get the circlip in and so I researched online, saw the freezer tip. Put the second one in over night and 2 light taps on the PVC and it was seated, huge difference, way easier.

Cheers.

Re: CX500 minor bob job - Forks sealed and table built, assembly soon.

Pics of table and forks. Spilled my atf so need a new bottle to fill forks. Oh well. Just need a couple more 4x2 and eyelets for tie downs and table is complete.

Nice work going on here maritime. I look forward to seeing where this goes.

Re: CX500 minor bob job - Forks sealed and table built, assembly soon.

i dont use atf in the forks anymore the formula for it has changed and it does not work as well as fork oil anymore

i use either honda fork oil or belray if you are a over 200 lbs use 20 weight under use 15
