cx'y 500

My new indicators arrived during the week and I think they are a massive improvment on the old ones i mocked up with

I also will be dumping the old warning lights cluster

IMG01373-20111110-1723.jpg

Im going to drill my headlamp and mount the blue high beam with the amber indicator warning lights either side of it

The oil and neutral lights will go between the clocks

I'll get stuck into those in the morning and let you know how it goes.

its a 30 year old bike mate, so I'm hoping they dont have a problem with it. What does worry me is the size, lol. The barstards might nik me for that

Ok, high beam and blinkers

First thing to do is drill the holes in my headlamp to clear the light fittings

IMG01382-20111112-1119.jpg

they should be a nice snug push fit

IMG01383-20111112-1119.jpg

I then went 1.5cm each side of the blue main beam lights and drilled for my indicator/blinker warning lights, and set those in too.

I wired the live warning light in with the new blinker live and the earth went to a common earth. They work and look great

Lastly I drilled out between the speedo and tacho to house the green neutral light and red oil pressure light and the job's a good'un.

I cant stress enough how important it is to get a good copy of a colour wiring diagrame, and pin it up to keep you on the right track. Take one wire at a time and before you know it you'll get through it.

The Reverend Bill Shergold, 2nd from the right

The Reverend Bill Shergold, who died on May 17 aged 89, enjoyed unusual celebrity in the 1960s when he was known as the "ton-up vicar" or the "biker priest"; decked out in black leathers astride a Triumph motorcycle, Shergold ministered to the rocker fraternity in east London as leader of the 59 Club.

When I was thinking about a number for my cafe racer the #59 did cross my mind. Then sadly this year we lost one of my racing heros Marco Simoncelli.

So from 59 we have a man down.

After that, the number of my little 500 cafe racer was obvious, and Marco's number

R.I.P. Marco

My son Nick and I bled the front break lines this morning, so the only thing left to do is paint my rad, fit it and fill it up with coolant.

Next weekend the bike will be finished [:D]

Nice touch, and tastefully done. I carry a number 7 around on my bikes for the great Barry Sheene. Doesn't hurt at all to acknowledge these brave men.

cheers

Ok, so for the last week or so I've been trying to get the Cafe 500 running, but all it does is fart and bang. I went over just about everything I know but still couldnt get it to run.

I phoned Pork's Dad to ask him if he had any ideas but got no answer on his mobile. I'm starting to lean towards stripping down the carbs and blasting them through with the compressor.

This afternoon I got a call back from Pork's Dad Rodney and I told him the problems I was having. Rod told me he was just over the road having a cuppa tea with his brother in law and when he was done would pop over.

Half houre later and Rod was on the case. He took the carbs apart and blew them through, then checked the plugs. Its still wouldnt start. He asked if I had put the HT leads to the coils on the right way round as this would cause the same problem if they were wrong. I had fitted new coils, but never even thought the wires might be wrong way round as they are colour coded. That said, they are aftermarket and may not be Honda colour coded.

And that was the problem, BUGGER!!!

All that messing about and baldy head scratching for two wires.

Anyway, this is the first startup of my CX Cafe 500. I think I'm gonna need a dB killer to get it through the MOT Test.

Wow. That thing sounds pissed off! It looks absolutely great, great job man. I've been following your build for a long time now and it's great to see it come to completion. Really nice! You gotta put this one in the Show & Shine.

Thanks matey, I'm gonna get some vid of it going up the road tomorrow then get some photos done. ;D

Thanks fella.
Me too bud, but I gotta get it through an mot before I knock up any miles.
Just orded a dB killer from ebay :(

Do you have a muffler on it or is that straight through, it sounds open?
Cheers, 50gary

The dB killer is on and it sounds much more like it will go through an M.O.T.
