DEET MB5 - Fully Legal

Re: DEET MB5 - Done...For Now

Whoohoooooo. Looking good! If you are into the motor, might as well increase the cc then. Treats in California or Perk in Indiana for the win....cheers

Re: DEET MB5 - Done...For Now

Thanks doublej. I won't be increasing the size any. Would be nice but it would be a lot more money to go that route, out of reach at the moment.

Re: DEET MB5 - Done...For Now

Wow just read the whole thread and what a seriously sexy cool little bike it has turned out to be.

Credit to you Herr, you have done a fantastic job.

Re: DEET MB5 - Half Legal

Thank you very much Mr.

Well I'm halfway to becoming legal. Two Highway Enforcement Officers came to the house this morning to inspect the bike and everything was fine. Just need to get up to MR and get it registered and a plate...WooHoo :D

Fully legal now. Went into MR and picked up the plate. Just need to sort out the compression issue and I'm all set. Parts are on the way for that.

Thanks sxecafe, certainly does. Went right home and put the plate on :)

Maritime, I'm hoping to. I usually can get up to the first or second week of December before putting the bikes away, so I guess it depends on how soon the parts get here. Don't think it will take long to do the engine work. Going to replace all the seals and bearings while I'm at it.

Good to hear. I can usually get to then too before I put the bikes to bed for winter. Not sure yet here in Woodstock, just that 2 hours north of Moncton might end my riding by Nov instead. Good idea to do the bearings and seals at the same time as the other parts. 2 strokes are just so simple inside it makes a tear down and rebuild so much easier. I have a little DS80 I am going to do either this winter or next.

Tell me about it, I took the head and cylinder off the other day in about 10 minutes, which included taking the exhaust off, and another 10 to put it all back on. Try doing that on a four stroke. :)

I already have an electronic copy of it, thanks though. I have the shop manual too if you need either of them.

I am good on both + Haynes. Looking around for a 100A motor + carb though. Will be also drilling the disc rotor for cooling.

Well I found one but 295 pounds is out of the question for a unknown. Plus shipping, so I will go the kitted route and massage the complete motor to get everything out of it. If you want the contact info then PM me. Have pics of said motor.

Yeah, that's a bit of cash. Way too much for me, I'm just going to stick with the stock one. Thanks though. I'm still waiting on piston rings from Treatland...going on two months now. ??? Can't ride since its winter, but want to get it all back together, taking up a whole bench.

Try PerkLLC for your rings. Treats may have lost the order on the floor! Call Treats as the site says they have them.

Someone recently posted a pic of a Bol d'Or version of a MB5 over on www.mb5web.com. No one really has any info on it, not sure if it was just a one off build by someone or not. I really liked the fairing on it and did up a quick Photoshop to see how it would look on my bike. If I can find a suitable candidate for the clear screen part, I may take a stab at making one over the winter.

Here's the original picture and my photoshop.

Very neat! Gonna build a foam blank mockup and then glass it, or thermally form it from Kydex, or what?
