Eleanor Rigby : 1985 Rebel 250 Bobber... The Dead Are Walking

Re: 1985 Rebel 250 Bobber Build (The Rob Bob)

Speaking of the speed of the build slowing down, remember that kids don't have much for an attention span (and you either for that matter), try to find things for him (and you) to stay active on during the slow times. It would be easy for him to loose focus and faith in the project when visable progress starts to creep. Cleaning, painting, polishing, designing, and fabricating things can all be going on at any given time. Remeber to keep fabing things as you have ideas when your slow! You don't have to use everything you build, this will help teach him valuable skills in fabing then skills in self editing. I was just telling my mom today about this project and she thinks you are being such a great father by doing this, and she is right, I know this will improve Robbies respect for you and his material possesions.

Great work brother, I am really glad you are doing this, more fathers need to be spending time with there childeren somewhere other that in front of a TV!

Thanks bro.
Did very little last night, but I've got some pics. We stripped the drum cover and did a little bit of sanding on it. We also sprayed the frame down with Superclean. Still some wire wheel work to do. Here are the pics.
The drum cover:

Here's the naked frame after the superclean:

And here's the rebel motor beside a cb350 motor. It's amazing that the 350 is only 100 cc's bigger!

More to come tomorrow...

Re: 1985 Rebel 250 Bobber Build (The Rob Bob)

nice work... what are you going to do about shock mount locations, if you move the top mount forward 1 inch that would really slam that sucker back there!

Re: 1985 Rebel 250 Bobber Build (The Rob Bob)

Ya know I haven't thought about that. We'll look at it. Looks pretty straight-forward though. It sits pretty low as is. I'll have to look at clearance issues and such before making a decision. I'll get the shocks and mock it up tonight to see what it'll sit like.

Re: 1985 Rebel 250 Bobber Build (The Rob Bob)

The bars may look wide, but.... Will they help a beginner rider? Keeping in mind the first road scoot, and traffic.... Just a thought.... Building confidence might be worth the extra inch and a half. Of course, who here wouldn't have more confidence if they had an extra 1 1/2". Yeah, I said it.

Hahaha! :D
*serious face and voice* TRUE!

Re: 1985 Rebel 250 Bobber Build (The Rob Bob)

Wow!
Well Rob actually asked me if we could make the bars wider. So I don't think we'll be shortening them. As for you guys' inadequacies... :p
Also he changed the color from drab green to black and silver. And I'm very happy with that.

Sweet! A black and silver bobber! That one will stand out in a crowd of its peers! Oh well, it's what the kid wants! Reguardless of its lack of individuality, its really cool you are respecting the kids ideas and whishes for his bike! It does turn it more into his build, which has to feel great at his age (Hell it feels great at my age!). He has not mentioned the lady's digging it yet, but after he is cruising on it and he is the only kid in his class with his own wheels! Well I think you get where I am going with this! You have to think he has almost two years before he gets to ride legally. He is interested in girls now, but in two years he will be obsessed! Moms tell their daughters not to associate with those boys, and those girls are always the ones who dig biker dudes the most!

So what.. you want it painted fuschia with pink accents ya nancy-pants?!? :p
I'll be blasting some parts in a few minutes and getting some pics up tomorrow, so we'll have some fresh pics. Also some stuff for the cb750. I'll update that thread as well... if I can find it.

Re: 1985 Rebel 250 Bobber Build (The Rob Bob)

So I got some of the parts blasted (at work... shhh). Got the top triple tree, rear drum cover, risers, and v-stack blasted, along with some parts for the 750. Here are some pics.

here are the levers, cut drilled, blasted then counter-sunk. Rob likes these so we'll be doing some for his bike as soon as we get a new brake lever (the bike HAS been down...).

Don't have any pics of the v-stack but it looks nice too. The plan is to leave them raw and let nature have its way with them for a while. I've got several parts done like this on my 750 and they're turning out nicely. Just wipe the oxidation away every once in a while. Up next is to paint the frame, clean the wheels, paint them, and fabricate (or find) a box to mount to the swingarm for the battery and some of the electrics. I've also found a ribbed front fender that Robbie likes for a hugger rear fender. We'll probably start figuring out the lines we want it cut along soon too.

Re: 1985 Rebel 250 Bobber Build (The Rob Bob)

that looks good! i always cut the ball off the end of levers... i just did the same on the rockt i am building now... parts look good!

Re:Eleanor Rigby : 1985 Rebel 250 Bobber Build

Thanks Joe. Robbie just chose a name for his scoot. And he's way better at that than I am. She will be called Eleanor Rigby!

Re: Eleanor Rigby : 1985 Rebel 250 Bobber Build

tell Robbie to get back to the drawing board on name ideas... that is lame as hell! on a bobber, needs to be much tuffer, ground pounder, or something cool.... Eleanor Rigby sounds like a librain that is 10000 years old!

Dude, Eleanor Rigby is an awesome name for a scoot! Its a beatles song! Tell robbie he kicks ass and Joe has no taste! ;)

Re: Eleanor Rigby : 1985 Rebel 250 Bobber Build

true i have no taste... but i was great at getting laid at his age... when he has to explain to his friends 1000000x's what the fk that means it will get old... it is cool for us cause we know what the hell that is. but i bet out of 100 15 year olds, 3 will know what it is, and 1 will know the song. my vote, new name!

Re: Eleanor Rigby : 1985 Rebel 250 Bobber Build

ok... correction... i was not getting laid at 15... but i was cool ;D ya know, little boob touch here and there

Re: Eleanor Rigby : 1985 Rebel 250 Bobber Build

He does not even have to let them know the name is Eleanor Rigby, or he can tell them and then not explain it. That is the route I would go, if they are cool, they will know what it is, if not, then keep'em guessin!

Re: Eleanor Rigby : 1985 Rebel 250 Bobber Build

"Her name is Eleanor Rigby...."

"Huh? What's that mean? Why'd you name your bike that?"

"Because she was my first."

"First what?.... OHhHHHH.... DOod, NICE."

(slow nod of confidence to leave them guessing)"Yeah"

They don't have to know that he's referring to the bike. ;D
