Ever get the itch for a "modern" bike?

I'm thinking my Christmas present to myself this year may be a modern bike. I'm going to test ride a Thruxton and a Guzzi C7 Cafe. The C7 is interesting just because it would be unique. I've been laying hits with the wifey..so far so good.

Sounds like a plan. I'd heard the modern cafes were pretty uncomfortable. My T100 was a real steal... I would have felt guiltier not buying it.

I had my Bonneville at the dealer for the 500 mile servicing (I know, I know, but I don't run my own computer and they can hook it up and tell me that it's been properly broken in and all that jazz. ANYWAY) this weekend.

While I was there waiting around they let me Demo both the Triumph Thunderbird and the Bonneville T100.

I enjoyed myself quite a bit on the thunderbird. 1600cc is pretty HEAVY but once it got going it was suprisingly nimble (for a cruiser). She felt nice, turned light, and the suspension seemed great.

The T100 was much more different than I expected. I originally wanted to drive it more because it had a windscreen on and I wanted to see an apples to apples comparison of just how effective a large screen was on a Bonnie. The screen was the last thing I noticed. The T100 rode higher, didn't handle as nicely and had a more rigid feel than my stock bonneville a1. I was surprised at the difference in what is essentially the same bike.

Anyway, just thought I'd put that out there for other riders looking into modern rides.

Sounds exactly what HFL said on the T100 vrs stock Bonnie.

I'm a fan of this new fad called supermotards. Would love to have a duc hypermotard

And if I had to be cautious on the dough I'd get a klx250sf.

That new Guzzi is a pretty sweet looking bike. I was eyeing those too.

I don't see either of those as "modern" bikes - more like new old bikes.

EFI, modern forks, suspensions and geometry optimized for modern rubber. Retro looking yes but far from old technology.

You could say the same thing about Harleys too - but they are still 100 year old air cooled pushrod v-twins.

I'd definitely consider them modern. Bit of a throw back for sure, probably closer to last gen tech, but definitely modern.

Just did some reading on this new beauty although the price tag includes $30k, a small child and left nut, no not lefty!, for the size of the engine the weight is quite low and they are getting over 180HP out of the R version. Damn I want this bike!

Looks good, performs good, the last bike you'll ever need, almost worth it.

My daily is a zx14. 200hp...at then end of third gear im doing 250km and have 3 to go. It rips through the corners like a sports bike but can be ridden for hours with its upright riding position....When I get nostalgic I ride the old ones :)

Looking at the Motus I'm left wondering is it just me or are bikes today just plain uglier than shit? I don't care if it makes a bazillion H.P. its ugly.

I suppose that's why I love the modern 'retro' bikes. Has the visual appeal of a vintage bike and the convenience of a modern one.

i have to say, i LOVE the sport touring world of bikes man... i think that Motus is just beautiful! i am a sucker for sport bike tour'rs

You means it runs when you want to ride it ... without self-destructing. :)

for my next modern bike.. it will most likely be a Moto Guzzi.. most people on here are really fond of the V7 racer/classic.. and I think they look nice.. but I am in love with the Moto Guzzi 1200 Sport ;D

We talked about this bike earlier in this thread but this would be the perfect bike for me. It's so close to being the perfect Brat Tracker as is.
