Ever get the itch for a "modern" bike?

i have to say, i LOVE the sport touring world of bikes man... i think that Motus is just beautiful! i am a sucker for sport bike tour'rs

I agree, either you like them or ya don't. Never really cared for them initially till I picked up my bandit and I think I will always have one here on out along with my vintage bikes. I like the fact that I can sit upright on my sport/tourer and stomp some crotch rockets in the twisties if need be.

hahaha that is really funny you say that! i hated them till i owned a bandit!!! now like you, i will always have one in the stable... plus alot of my buddies rock naked sport bikes or SV style bikes... so it is fun to have to go blast out 3 - 400 miles on some back roads and have room for jackets and other crap

I suppose that's why I love the modern 'retro' bikes. Has the visual appeal of a vintage bike and the convenience of a modern one.

The appeal of the Motus is the engine layout and the fact it is American. They pussed out though. They swapped out the direct injection heads for normal FI heads on the production bike. They felt the aftermarket would have too much trouble making parts for it. Screw that! If BMW had a BS attitude like that, we wouldn't have some of the awesome bikes they have produced. F Motus!

I'll keep the '77 750F2, the '78 750K8, and the '11 S1000RR.

Sounds exactly what HFL said on the T100 vrs stock Bonnie.

I read that review as well. I guess I kind of just assumed since they rode so many bikes and had these awesome powers of observation that they would be able to notice all these things that I wouldn't. That I would have the kind of "standard" experience.

Guess not.

CJ: How's your new(to you) T100? What kinda deal didja get on it?

So what's the skinny on these? Kawi 1200 zxr's. Seem to be pretty reasonable on the used market and look like they would take to some retro moding pretty well.

I've never known anyone who's owned or ridden a ZRX that didn't like it.

Good looking bike in a typically reliable / robust Jap way.

Mike, I've got a 2000 ZRX1100. Bought it off the showroom floor. I 'effin' love that bike. The 1200 has a few more horses but not a ton of differences. It's the one bike of mine I won't ever sell.

My neighbor has a ZXR- he's got 50,000+ miles on it so far and loves it. Done some tweeking to it as well and has run a best of 10.2 in the quarter mile. Comfy and fast!

Wow the prices on the 1100 are really good, about 2k less for bike with similar miles. Any issues I should look for when buying one?

Those ZRX are one of may favorite Kawi's I would own one if I had the scratch to. I have only sat on one but it looks like a great all around bike to have fun in twisty's load with luggage and go 2000 miles or ride to work etc. Kind of like how I have my GL setup only with better shocks, and more hp.

Nothing specific that I know of. Mine has been bulletproof.

Normal wear and tear / abuse are the main things to look out for.

Kawasaki has been making DOHC in line fours for 40 years now so they are a pretty reliable platform.

So funny this thread came up. I was just looking at a used Triumph today thinking... Hmmmmm what if?

Hell yes and I scratched it the other day! I got this 2001 1200S Bandit for $1500 thanks to Craig and his glorious list.
Rides like its brand new. Sewing machine smooth and holy hell is it fast!!!

Good looking bike Tobiism! Love my 02 B12. That is one hell of a good price on that bike! One of the best bikes I have ever owned!

^ Happened this morning as a matter of fact, damn thing is not happy unless its doing 110

Thanks guys and you are both right, you can easily blow off the speed limit without even knowing it. Thats one of the reason the fairing is coming off to go naked. I'm hoping for more sensation of speed! The fact that 95 feels like 65 on this bike is amazing. What seat did you guys find comfy on your second gen Bandits? I find the stock one- "lacking".

Yeah the seat is a bit lacking but not as bad as I originally thought. I bought mine back in March and have placed 5-6k miles on it since, all on the original seat, it has a new seat cover but still the same padding and contour. I haven't really found a new seat for it that didn't look ugly as hell, that's why I still have the original. There are a few guys on bandit alley I think have reshaped it to be a little more fitting to them but I don't know if it was worth the work they put into it.
