Evolution of a G'ass-Hole New pipes!!! better pics

Put some metal in yer eye....
I bought the bike off a Friend for a really good price. It was a Basket case. But only had 7200 orig. miles on the motor. Unfortunately it had been passed around for a while in this condition.
I had sold most of my parts by this time. Luckily I found a NOS bannana Wassel tank in the Loft of out local salvage yard. The owners and I are friends. He knew I didnt have much in the way of cash so he for the most part gave it to me. He figured it had been up there for 35+ yrs. So that's where it started.

I started the build about 4 weeks before I was leaving to deliver the cb400 down to So.Cal. and I really wanted to take something to ride my self. So it was on....

Frame is completely stock minus 4" out of the seat hoop. Mounted up some Marzoochi shocks and my wassel tank. I was stoked already!

Next I needed some wheels which I also grabbed from a friend. Some nice high shouldered Akronts. Fit those up and I had a roller.

Then I started on the electrics tray. My welder had taken a shit so the tray, and all other mods to the bike are done with Braze.

This is what I had after final mock-up.

Then I focussed on a few small details. Drilled the rotor. Installed a Brembo master cyl. and braded line off a KTM dirt bike. 6$ grips from bicycle shop. Tires dug out off the trash @ Salvage yard. Another home job seat. Some other things etc.

I did paint the tank. But it sprung a leek at a seem and f'd it all up. Bummer....

Thats all folk. I finished in time to take it to So.Cal. Loaded it up. Unfortunately left the ignition on and fried the points and couldnt ride it once I got down there... lol

Thanks for looking...

Re: Short build for G'ass-Hole

Dig the bike, Louie. Shame about that paint, though. It looked like you put some work into it.

Later bud.

Re: Short build for G'ass-Hole

Thanks for posting Louie, Great short and to the point build. Are both Akront wheels 18" wheels?

Re: Short build for G'ass-Hole

Thanks man... The paint was cool. but, I'm kinda liking not having to worry about scratching anything right now. The bike will under go a more extensive build this coming winter. So I'm trying not to get caught up in the detail work at this time. Dont want to do things over and over ya know...?

No problem. No, they're 19" and 18". Planning on going with 2 19's over the winter though.

Re: Short build for G'ass-Hole

I really like that battery/electrics tray. Can I pay you to build me one? One broke man to another?

Re: Short build for G'ass-Hole

my xs650. If your interested send me a pm. I'm in no rush so you'd have plenty of time.

My bike just developed some charging issues, so money must be diverted into PMA swap stuff.

Re: Short build for G'ass-Hole

Cool, I like my XS's, stock wheels do look good 8)
Are you going to fit a 19" WM3 rear?
What is the headlight mount?
BTW, WASSEL made a banana seat and peanut tank ;D

I'm liking mine alot! I've serviced several. But this is the 1st one I've owned. I gotta say, I'm impressed with the fun factor.
As far as the tank goes. You might be right...? I've been around chopper parts for a while, and what It has always been referred to me as a banana Wassel? I know they made what is refered to as a peanut tank. But terms get thrown around over the yrs and lose there true sense over time I guess. Such as bobber... Here is an ad for both styles.

I do eventually plan on running a 19 on the rear eventually. I think...? I have a 21" high shouldered rim that would look great on the front. And Mikes XS sells the required spokes for pretty cheap. So thats another avenue...

The headlight mount is home made.

Now I want a Banana seat, and I don't even know what one looks like...Lol (aside from something off a schwinn)

Re: Short build for G'ass-Hole

Bike looks fantastic Lou. Glad you've been busy! Loved that texture on the lace. Shame, but I also dig the bare tank too. Nice work my friend!

Re: Short build for G'ass-Hole

So I got a Bike back that I sold last yr for pennies on the dollar. But the Po was not kind to it. Luckily the motor is in the same condition it left in. The PO bought it last september, road it for 2 days. And the voltage regulator took a crap and blew the lights. So he parked it and started tearing the bike apart to "make it his". Well, he made his alright...

Now it's back home and my wife wants to ride. So it's hers now. G'ass-hole has found a mate for the moment, haha....

What it was when it left

Maybe they'll get drunk and make babies one night...?

I need to find some rebel shocks for her. I' know she isn't going to want to ride around on a strutted bike for long.
