I'm figuring out an appropriate spot to mount the:
...EarthX battery from Sparck Moto. I have no experience with lithium motorcycle batteries. Does it have to be mounted completely upright, or can it sit at a bit of an angle (or even sideways)? No info in the package (I think the mfg assumes using a stock battery tray...)
Ideally it will sit in a battery tray within the rear hoop, but will have to lay sideways. Sorry if it's been covered, a quick search yielded no results.
Still working on wiring / electronics management. I mocked up a tray for the r/r and fuses. I also put in a request from Sparck Moto for a new loom with provisions for every upgrade I can manage.... Other design work will include battery mounting and final seat pan design.
...updates aside, I plan to use a cb200 tank, with a cb360 petcock/ mounting position. My question is: will a stock cb200 petcock provide enough fuel? (This may be a really dumb question and the fuel flow is the same, but I already trashed the petcock from my 200 tank, as it was in really rough shape - so I can't compare).
A stock 360 petcock needs an externally threaded bung for attachment. I need to move the petcock toward the back of the bike to clear the head when using a 200 tank. Suggestions are welcome. Welding in a new bung shouldn't be a problem (I hope).
Either way, I have to relocate the petcock to clear the motor when using the 200 tank, so I had planned to use a 360 petcock. I think mounting will be easier with the 200 petcock though, so that's how I'll proceed.
New problem: I'm disassembling my gauges to clean them up and replace the faces. My issue is that I can't seem to get the trip-meter reset knob off. I read that it's reverse threaded, but turning in either direction hasn't yielded any results. There is no set-screw. Is it press-fit?
Yep, Honda didn't want them being taken apart.
I've had them fall off through vibration but very rare to unscrew one.
They are left hand thread. Check you don't have a tiny JIS screw down inside 'button' locking things down
I finally have my piston rings and have a few questions for anyone that might be able to help:
I'm having trouble distinguishing which ring goes where / orientation. I think my order, from top to bottom is this:
I did find this on Honda twins:
"The top ring is nearly symetrical, but it does have a slight taper, and the wide side (smaller bevel) goes down.... the second compression ring is usually more obviously "ramped" at a slight angle... (its cross-sectionally trapezoidal, not rectangular or square)... The wider side should again be down towards the oil ring...... Some second compression rings have an undercut on their bottom side as well (the 350's come to mind)....
On 1-piece oil rings, I generally put the thicker "edge" down..... I don't see it mattering much on 3-piece oil rings.... JMHO......"
...but my rings have a rectangular cross-section. HELP! This is the last thing I have to work out before top-end reassembly.
...each is labeled "top" designating which side goes up, but apart from the black-oxide finish on one of the two rings, they look identical to me...(?)
Thanks! I'm not sure now, but can dig through receipts if you're interested (I didn't order it from any of my regular sources for parts). It was a generic fender that I cut / modified. Essentially a piece of rolled steel with the right diameter.
