First Project : Yamaha XS1100

Ok thank you!
Do you have any recommendation concerning the brand or something?
Do you thing front progressive spring is an real upgrade or not?

i was speaking about progressive shocks for the back i have progressive 412s on mine

i am tossing the xs front end as even with the fork brace i am not enjoying it or the brakes

even with t-cats fork brace and a full brake rebuild

for e the bike need a way stiffer front end and BRAKES

Progressive or progressive wound springs are an upgrade or not an upgrade depending upon your opinion. Personally, I don't like them. I prefer a straight rate spring chosen for my weight and riding style. I have Progressive 412 on my XS11 with the stiffest spring offered. That and the dampening limit the shaft jacking enough that I don't notice it. I need to add that I'm running straight rate springs with emulators up front, so that helps too. I have my laden sag set to 35 mm front and back. The down side to this the ride is very harsh. More laden sag is need for progressive springs and I want none of that. I have good pavement here in North Georgia and lots of curves. It works well.

To do it again? The Progressive would not be on my bike. I'd go straight rate on the springs. I would choose from YSS, Hagon, or Bitubo. All offer a good product at a reasonable price point.

I strongly suggest you get your springs/shocks from someone who can supply you with what you need. I bought the Progressive 412 with what they called "heavy duty" application for the XS1100. I'm 230 lbs and I was dragging hard parts in the corners. I had to spring for another set of springs to cure it. YMMV

desmo

i may slap the whole front end on a xs650 i just picked up i will figure that out next month

Cxman how much for the TKAT? Is it for the leading axel front end?

Just for your info, Torozzi supplies a fork brace similar to the TKAT. They have one for the standard, and the leading axle Special. Fast from the Past in Atlanta sell them. It's just another option.

I'm not sure if it's powder or black oxide. I don't have one, but I'd guess the later. I think the Tarozzi is cast. I have a TKAT and it is machined from a block of aluminum. It looks good polished.

Hi guys!
Is that complicated to switch the gas tank for a more squarish thing ?

Do you wish to switch from XS1100 Special

to XS1100 standard?

If that is the case, the standard tank will bolt right up. The seat won't quite fit anymore, but you were planning to change that anyway, right? If you make the switch, the Special has a vacuum operated fuel shutoff valve mounted above carburetor #2. Take that off. The petcocks won't interchange and the standard tank should have vacuum operated petcocks. That should be all there is to it.

It's a nice bike here!
Do you have the source to see more pictures?

A this time I need inspiration. I almost stripped the whole frame. But I agree this one make me want keep my actual tank...

The last photo was from Instagram. I have no account. The bike came out of a shop in the Netherlands. On page one of this thread, I posted pics of two bikes done by Tarmac Custom Motorcycles in Spain. There was another nicely done Special on here by FrankyRizzo702 .
