Anyone know where to get and what is the appropriate gel cell battery to run on a 78 cb400 t. MY battery strap broke while i was riding home from work. and battery bounced out of its tray and got mangled by my chain and tires. Acid all over everything.

Try www.batterystuff.com That's where I got my battery from. They shipped quick and I haven't had any problems with the battery so far. Do you need a new battery tray? I have the stock battery holder from a 79 cm400t that might fit.

I just need to get a battery do you know what the proper ah is to run a cb400 just signals, head and tail light, horn and starter. Thanks for the help

UPDATE:
I rode alot this weekend. I ended up spending my Sat. trying to find a tail light and I think I have found one from the local dealer I could modify to fit nicely. Its a bright ass LED joint and its $70.00 so I think come friday Ill order it. I also order a OEM petcock from Honda which should be here tomorrow cause both of mine have something wrong with it (either not giving enough gas or leaking while in the off position. Not very good when you don’t want your garage to smell like petrol).

Then last night I was riding and I got that nonsense where I could barely get the thing out of idle. The second I would touch the throttle it would die as if it wasn’t getting enough gas. I pulled the choke and it got better dramatically so I am thinking of reasons Im not getting the right amount of fuel in the system because it only gets that bad intermittently… The only thing I didn’t chance so far in the carb issue were floats so I ordered some newbies last night and hopefully they should be here soon.

One last thing that I could hopefully get some feedback on… Im still getting some difficulty pulling throttle from a dead stop. It boggs and then catches up and the issue gets worse the warmer the bike gets. I am going to have the carbs synched when I get the new floats and I think that should help a lot but I don’t know if Im over looking anything here. I don’t have an accelerator pump so I don’t think it could be that. Could not synching the carbs have that much of an impact on that? The mixture needle is out 3.5 turns with 90 mains and 125 secondary’s. Could it still be that lean? Shit this carb stuff is temperamental.

have you fixed the petcock problem? I had a problem that sounds close to what you have. Are you running a inline fuel filter? I found that the inline fuel filter works great when you have enough gas, but once it's on reserve, there wouldn't be enough gas going into the carbs. also maybe check your in-tank filter. give us an update!

UPDATE/Re: to EricGang* (Thats Gangstar for those of you not super fly like myself)

I got new floats and ordered a new OEM petcock from Honda for $40. That shit fixed alot of the issue I was having... although Im a still having it bog a little out of idle once it is warm but I am taking it to get synched this weekend. But yes there is a real nice steady flow with the new pc. I am not running a filter cause I Por15'd the tank and you could eat off of it.

I also spent some time fabbing up my new tail light config. Im actually really happy with the way it turned out. Some of the nicer work I have done on the bike actually. Hopefully its high enough that the old lady doesnt knock it off while riding ;)... But yea this thing is bright as shit... nearly gave me temp blindness... if thats something that you can be given.

Im going to work on relocating the electrix soon and finish that up. I am also needing to shorten/get new cables pretty bad as well. Until next time.

Very helpful thread. I'm currently working on my first project bike which happens to be a CB400T also. I'm having similar issues. Mine dies after 10 minutes or so and leaks fuel from one of the carbs. Other than that it's been fun. Not much done with it. Replaced the ball bearing in the steering tube with tapered ones and swapped both tripples with ones from a cb400f.

Keep up the good work.

I realized that my last thread post was in November!!!! Not cool and I appologize dudes. I had alot of family "changes" and adjustments to get through including a move and having to essentially put in an additional week in overtime so I can make the newly assumed mortgage. I've been riding alot. The bike is running pretty well but of course its never done...

The seat is not done I have to sand the bondo and move forward from there. My buddy/room mate bought a mig welder so I can make a battery box and new pipes. IM debating scrapping the seat I made and going with the Roc City Cafe seat. The shit looks baller and it would save me alot of time.

One question about paint on the tank. There is a Flat Clear that I continue to see but I dont know what the finish looks like. Is it really "Flat"? Like, as flat as no clear coat? Also, The paint right around my gas cap is rippling and about to chip. I was thinking of coating it with some of the POR 15 treatment I did on the inside of the tank and covering it with the cap cover my tank has. Any ideas on how to remedy this problem?

I have to get some better pics up, Hopefully I can get some day light this weekend.

hot rod flatz has some great paints, including clears that are flat as well... you can get guns and crap at harbor freight...
the paint is Single stage urethane, real easy to use. Prepped the tins with 320 grit. Use a 1.4mm nozzle in a hvlp gun. 50 percent overlap, two coats, done. Spray it like paint not primer.

Buen Dia Muchachos!

Its been hella long time since the last time I posted but... alas here I am.

I have been riding alot despite the cold. I have almost hit my first 1000 miles mark! Pretty cool I think.

Just bought a fiberglass from Roc City Cafe that I'm real excited about.

I have a little oil leak which I think I need a new gasket for... I remember reading a while back that someone on here was able to die cut their own... Ring any bells for anyone? I don't want to buy a whole gasket kit if I dont have to. If any on can think of anything please let me know.

Also, I am fixin to mock up an instrument cluster for the clock and ignition switch... So I might head on down and pick up some tin and snip away. Should be nice and warm here this weekend so hopefully I'll be able to ride the piss out of the weekend.

Pix are coming soon... I cant figure out how to convert the Nikon format to read on my Mac. Pops bought a Nikon d300 which took some bitchin' pics but I cant upload them for shit... bummer.

Peas,

sXe

Hey Dude,

thanks for the quick reply. Just so I'm sure... you just use that caulking gun to run a bead around the said gasket surface and bolt it down? I didnt how to apply for the limited time I looked a the site.
Thnx,

if you get the permatex "the right stuff" it is a cauk gun basily, run a quick beed keeping it tight, let that set up for like 5 min, then put on your part and tighten to specs... wait about 24 hrs and you are ready to roll !

Sounds like a good idea! I'm in need of some new gaskets as well but this solution looks so much better. What do you mean by "run a quick beed keeping it tight"?
