Always wanted to own a cafe racer or bobber, and I finally got a 1982 KZ305-b for $200 in running condition. Just starting to get my hands dirty in the world of engines and all that with my Volvo wagon, and now I want to finally get started on the bike end of the deal. I have no clue what I'm doing and you can expect a number of posts from me with questions about things.
I bought it with flat bars already installed, which is what I was already planning on installing.
So far, since the last of the parts I want to replace (tach cable, battery, gas line) are on order I have begun stripping and repainting the bike - Metallic Charcoal on the tank and two panels, trashing most of the frilly chrome stuff (rack, chrome panels), probably a metallic red on the frame, and possibly black and red wheels.

Ah... you never forget your first! Bike, not post. Who remembers their first post? Welcome!

I like the charcoal paint, but here's your first bit of unsolicited advice: since you're doing rattle can, get some SprayMax 2k clear coat to cover the paint or else any spilled fuel will strip it right off.

Welcome to DTT!
Depending on how long ago you laid the color coat, make sure you give it a while to de-gas before wet sanding and hitting it with the clear. Some wait a minimum of 48 hours, but I give my stuff a week. hate to have it heave after the 2nd coat of clear.

orchestra rehearsal

Orchestra, Volvo, man you need a Beemer air head to cafe' :)
Really, what do you play? Back in school, I suffered though 6 years of French Horn before I found home in the Baritone.

Does a '94 BMW 318is coupe without a starter count? Haha.
I'm a bass player - electric, double bass, keyboard bass. Double bass in orchestra and jazz groups.
And I was looking for a Bimmer when I was trying to find a bike. Haha. I was introduced to Cafes by a friend with a '86 Bimmer.
