Has some aftermarket goodies, ill list if people are interested.

I plan on doing nothing to it!....yet

Re: Ascot Tracker

I take that back....

I would really like to swap a front end from a CBR600. My plans arent to build this as a flat tracker but thats kinda what honda was thinking when they made it. maybe a street tracker?

Re: Ascot Tracker

Need to change out the headlight... maybe some lower profile mirrors... just sayin'. :D

Keep the old one though - that bike is in nice orginal shape, by the looks of it!

Re: Ascot Tracker

Thats funny what you say about the mirrors because those are aftermarket shorter mirrors! I agree though, I was thinking about suicide mirrors? I might change the headlight, might, but i for sure want to change the brake light. I dont mind the squareness but its so big!

I want this bike to be my commuter until I can get the ball rolling on my CB750.

Any other ideas?

Re: Ascot Tracker

I use to have one of these. It was a great bike, lots of fun to ride but for some reason mine was very stubborn to get started. The engine is from the Honda off-road bikes of that era, both 500 and 650cc, and were known to be pretty bullet proof. I never figured out why they took the kick start of this one but left it on the off-road bikes, guess they were trying to be "civilized" or something. Like the other poster here, I hated the square headlight, too. Mine also had after market mirrors... just like yours. I left w/ a buddy in Alaska who was suppose to sell it for me and someone stole it.

Re: Ascot Tracker

I would def be interested in getting a kick start on this.

Re: Ascot Tracker

I just picked up a 1982 FT500 tagged and inspected to 5/11 with just 7100miles on the clock. She has new tires, progressive suspension shocks on the rear and springs in front forks and even got an extra tank and starter ...all for $400 !! I couldn't peel the money off fast enough ! Good luck on yours !

nice find, everytime I find one the guys think they are worth gold because they were only sold for two years... I'm jealous... I have been looking for a good deal on one for a long time.

Re: Ascot Tracker

I am a bit surprised these never caught on in the same way the yamaha sr500 has, I live in Australia and a decent sr500 will cost around $4000 while a ft500 can be bought for around $1000.

There is a Jap company called "Move on garage" that's built a few up as street trackers and cafe racers:

Thats awesome! any plans? what are you going to do for mirrors?

Re: Ascot Tracker

Finally started taking mine apart. Didnt get very far until i had to go to work. Tonight I am taking everything off in order to get the carb off for cleaning.

Anyone have suggestions on rear shocks? these seem real squishy

Re: Ascot Tracker

Started taking everything off to get to the carb. Got the carb off and I am really surprised how clean it is... still needs cleaning but still.

Thats it for tonight. I will clean the carb and maybe figure out a different intake, the stock box is huge!

Re: Ascot Tracker

I always loved them and wanted one since I saw my first one new on the showroom floor.
All this time I KNEW it could be done!!!

Re: Ascot Tracker

Damn! Who knew that bike would look so nice stripped. No nasty surprises there - nice frame lines.

Leave the neoprene boots on the shocks - those are actually used in racing (although often longer versions).

Re: Ascot Tracker

I almost had one of these. My dad found a sweet deal on one in NY. He was gonna give it to me but decided to trade it to my brother for a cb. I was gonna streettracker the thing. I was gonna use the stock tank and cut the tabs of the bottom of it. and then put a better lookin seat on it. Trim the fat. From what i have read they make a petty good dirt track bike. With the neck deraked a little they handle really well. I'm interested to see what you do with this bike.

Re: Ascot Tracker

I dont really plan on doing much to it. I have a CB750F coming soon for a project. Right now im just replacing every hose and cleaning it

Re: Ascot Tracker

I really want to get rid of the stock airbox. If I run a cone filter will I be running too lean? If so could I run a foam filter in the carb and a cone filter? (Sorry I cant remember what that foam filter is called).

Re: Ascot Tracker

Replacing that headlight with a round one in a lower postion would do wonders for the looks...new gauges wouldn't hurt either.

Re: Ascot Tracker

I would love new gauges. A headlight I was thinking about. The square one doesnt bother me so much though. It may be something I do later on after I take care of some more important things.
