Ground Resistance

A stash of emergency whiskey goes in there. That can not serve any other purpose as far as I'm concerned.

This man is wise. Heed his advice. Backup Booze.

Re: Ground Resistance: Biohazard!

To your earlier comment about the solenoid, I've had it touching the frame before and not had any problems...with that said, just use a voltmeter to see if it makes any contact with any of the lugs coming out of it. I would think rubber might have been for vibration, isn't it a "switch" inside that contacts when electricity is put to it? Might "wear" faster if not rubber mounted? (note: these are just ideas, not facts) :p

Re: Ground Resistance: Biohazard!

The only thing I would worry about with your emergency medicine carrier would be a little ass crowding.

Re: Ground Resistance: Biohazard!

Cool Bruno, I finished the mount and it definitely has metal to metal contact. I'll get some pics up in a day or two. It came out a little more decorative than I intended.

I'm not feeling the back-up booze idea. Mostly because I have a feeling my brothers in blue are gonna pay special attention to a guy wearing tires riding a bike with improvised armor and bullet holes. Though I might line it with velvet and install a removable wooden humidor. I do like a good stogie every now and then.

Lee, the tank is pretty well out of the way. I'm sure it would interfere if I had rearsets, but as is I'm fine with it.

I actually laughed out loud at that one. Well played sir. (now get the pic of it up! ;))

Re: Ground Resistance: Biohazard!

I know what you want for switches! There's this guy who builds guitar stompboxes, he uses old surplus military switches that have a guard over them, sort of like the "fail-safe" type of deal, so you don't nuke the wrong city, etc. I forget the brand, but he's a real weirdo who hand cuts all of his own washers out of stainless sheet, once again mil surplus, with a lever arm punch press (and made five thousand of them so he'll always have enough), and he's somehow trying to make a CB900F Freddie Spencer replica type of bike ... out of a 750 MAGNA (?) so he's a bike nut in a way too.... Anyway, I wonder whether he'd be a guy you could get some switches off of. I should look for the link. I'd remember the company if he actually made a stomp box for Bass!

Another cool mod I heard of for these bikes, is to use the swingarm from the DOHC. I've got one kicking around spare, and one on the bike still that I don't really plan on using down the road. I guess they stretch the wheelbase an inch and a half and give needle roller bearings, and they're smooth and round rather than the square tube with the seam down the side. I know this is a nearly finished build, and you seem to be working with what's on hand, and to a very mil-spec Mad Max type of vibe, but it would be cool. Do these reverse comstars I've got left over fit on the SOHC as well? They're slightly wider rims I guess, (2.15 up front and 2.50 where I think the older comstars cool and classic as they are were a 1.85 front and 2.15 rear, plus the reverse comstars also come in a 2.50 by 18 front wheel also, from the GL1100) and there are tons of them kicking around 'cause all of us DOHC guys wanna get rid of them. If you were gonna paint a set of wheels, I figure it would be worth grabbing the spare set first to make it all work quicker and smoother, working-up-on-blocks-wise.

Re: Ground Resistance: Biohazard!

I'm a bit concerned with the tire-armored leather jacket. Tires are sorta designed to grip the pavement. Jacket armor should slide on pavement in order to minimize injury.

I'm not saying it wouldn't look primo-bitchin 8), just wondering what will happen if it gets "stress tested". :-\

So what you're saying is.. it would be like building a slip-n-slide out of sandpaper... This is a good point.

Could always put the pieces in areas that wouldn't be as likely to make full contact with the road.. (back of the arms, top of the shoulders, etc..).. Or you could get REALLY fancy and make faux tread out of some more forgiving material..

Re: Ground Resistance: Biohazard!

The bike is very cool and original, but seriously, do you really want to go as far as wearing tire treads? I don't know about you, but I think if it were me I would let the bike get the attention it deserves and keep myself safe with modern gear. Not to mention the additional weight and you'll roast in the sun. Limited movement as well.

Re: Ground Resistance: Biohazard!

I love the bike. As for the armour I would say do it, but only for special occasions, not everyday commuting etc. This thing has turned out way more awesomer than I thought it would when you started, it is definately way up there on the well done scale.

Cheers,

Maritime.

Re: Ground Resistance: Biohazard!

Build yourself a codpiece out of tyre too. That would be awesome addition to the battle armour.

Re: Ground Resistance: Biohazard!

Yeah but you gotta use a studded snow tire for that......statement value and al......

Re: Ground Resistance: Biohazard!

Easy guys. The 'armor' I have in mind consists of a jean jacket with some tread elbow pads, racing stripes, and a belt piece attached at the waist. Like a modern back brace modeled after a weight lifting belt. Since I will be mostly commuting on this, It won't be everyday wear.

And no codpiece. I chafe easily.

Re: Ground Resistance: Biohazard!

Y'all are coming to barber??? Awesome. See you guys there.
Wow, I stay busy for like a week and look at all I've missed. She's almost there dude. And thanks for the full bike shots. I needed something new for my 'alone time.'

Re: Ground Resistance: Biohazard!

I'll try to get some more pics today after I go over the carbs one last time. And if I do make Barber, I think it might be a good idea to plastic cover my seat, in case of any impromptu 'alone time'.

I'm thinking prime parking.. between Willow and Gretta... Maybe even roll a tire up on one of their kickstands.. for attitude.

Re: Ground Resistance: Biohazard!
