"Half Sack " cb400 (Almost Done!)

Re: Half Sack "The Hawk"

very nice tweek very nice! I wish i would have changed the gearing on mine while i had it apart... still may... just ordered new gears for my FZR... should give it a bit more pep

Re: Half Sack "The Hawk"

The new gearing should make this 5400 a little more fun around town.

I got a ton of stuff back from powder yesterday. Hope to have a roller by the weekend. Still waiting on new piston rings for the motor.

Got some stuff back from powder. Wheels with drilled and resurfaced rotor and changed rear sprocket. New Avon rubber.

frame with all new bushings and grease ports. Rebuilt SW suspension.

The pictures don't do the silver metal flake powder justice.

Re: Half Sack "The Hawk"

awesome man. a few questions, how much were the tires and from where? are those shocks the stock ones just powdercoated? and finally, are you doing pods and if so, what kind of jetting are you planning on doing on your carbs?

Re: Half Sack "The Hawk"

that is a eastwood silver man! i love that color!!!! just shot some last week, just GLOWS in the sun.... looking great! i love those mags all powdered they look sick!

Re: Half Sack "The Hawk"

I got the tires from www.bikebandit.com they were about $185 for both. The shocks are some old
SW suspension that I picked up on fleabay. Shocks are difficult to find for these bikes since they are double cleavis. I am running K&N pods and did get some jets from www.jetsrus.com. I bought a bunch of jets since I know I will have to go through trial and error to tune it once it is back together. I am not even sure what sizes I picked up at the moment. I will look and let you know.

+1
just fantastic! Love it!

Re: Half Sack "The Hawk"

I start off by hitting the part with a brass wire wheel attached to my air tool. Next I sand with 200 grit sand paper, then 600 grit. Then I hit my buffing wheels. First I use (brown) polishing compound from Harbor Freight then on a different wheel hit it with (green) polishing compound, also from harbor freight. I go back and forth on the compounds until I get the desired results. For me polishing takes some serious time, go slow on the wheels and you will get good results. I plan on hitting these all up again.

Hope this helps.

What compound(s) did you use to polish those gauges, they look great.

Re: Half Sack "The Hawk" Updates.. Roller now

Yea that is good to know. I was considering picking up some of that green polishing compound from the freight anyway because I realized that those pieces are steel and so they need the green compound.

The silver frame with black and chrome parts is a great combo.

What brake line are you using and where did you get it from?

awesome build.

I do the same thing!!! only i use WD40 to lube as i am polishing.. i have a high speed buff wheel and water does nto cut it... the WD works great!! but you can not use it in the same room as you will paint in... EVER... or your paint will never lay right

Re: Half Sack "The Hawk" Updates.. Roller now

Joe, I have never tried the WD as lube. I will give it a shot on my next piece.

Glassed the seat pan that I will pad and wrap in leather for the seat.

Got the heads and cylinders back on with new piston rings and adjusted the valves. Trying to finish up the polishing on the covers to button it all up.

I also wired up some toggles I put n the headlight that will act as the acc and ignition.

Re: Half Sack "The Hawk" (Engine back in)

Got a lot accomplished this weekend. Engine installed and exhaust put on. I am not sure if I am going to put the muffler on or just make, or have some one make a reverse cone to cap off the header were it is now. My engine covers were beat to piss so after a ton of work I am happy with how they turned out. Waiting on my K&N pods and spark plug boots.

The tins are in the process of getting all the dents out and prep for paint.

Excellent work there fella. I've always liked the way these motors 'hang' from the frame, and you've highlighted that very well here.

Lookin' good.
